A Grave Day.
Troy was confused at what to say at the moments. Dariella's proposal came too quick and sharp. He laughed out loud, stammering some words.
“Who won't make a demon sign a deal with a human? I'm a demon, and the deal I make to humans depends on their choice, and I take life also, so there's no way I'm signing a deal with you.”
“Okay, fine. If you don't accept my offer, then I die, your tattoo disappears, and maybe you'll die also,” she said, looking straight up into his eyes, moving away from him and heading towards her car.
He said, “I'll do it. I'll be your bodyguard, not because I want to have anything to do with you, but because you have to stay alive, so I'll figure out how I can regain my tattoo back. So let's begin. I'm driving you home.”
He held her hands and dragged her to the car, having no emotions attached. She smiled as he dragged her. He drove her home. Wanting to go home, she said, “Don't go. It's too late already. Sleep over at my place.”
He agreed at once and slept over.
By 1 midnight, Dariella felt a rumbling in her stomach. She got up, went to the kitchen to make coffee. She was rattling plates and cup, which made Troy alerted. He got up, holding a lampstand in his hand, walking towards the kitchen in terror, and found out she was the one causing chaos.
He saw how terrible her coffee was and decided to make it for her. He offered her the coffee. She took a sip and smiled. She teased him.
“What kind of demon are you that you know how to brew coffee?”
He pushed her away, walking away from her. He replied, “I was a human before I became a demon.”
He went back to his room. She drank the coffee by taking sips and slipped to her room and slept.
A new day dawned with the sun smiling down at the earth. Dews were settling, birds chirping, trees clapping. Dariella woke up, preparing for another sumptuous day at work, did her morning routines, and was ready to go.
Troy, who woke up before her, prepared also, waiting for her to call out. She did call out. He came out of the room, captivated by her looks. He was astonished at her beauty, but that wasn't the deal he signed for, and he wasn't a human either.
He looked straight away from her, and she followed. He drove her to work and followed her all the way to her office. From the entrance to her office, all the female staffs admired him for his looks, and gossips spread round.
They kept murmuring words.
“Has little madam gotten engaged?”
“Is he a new P.A?”
A soffa chair was placed in her office, meant for Troy. He sat down, starring at the painted wall. He felt irritated sitting just like that, doing nothing, no deal to offer, no contract to sign.
He took a book he saw from her table and laughed scornfully at the title. It had a title written HUMAN MADE FROM GOD at the front cover. He dropped the book back and decided to go out to take some air.
She called him back.
“Let's go for dinner.”
It was 5pm already. He didn't say a word and went outside. They went to Williamsburg restaurant and grabbed dinner.
At the restaurant, her phone buzzed. It was the chairlady, who is ill and knew she won't last long, feeling sad that she was going to leave Dariella behind with her venomous children who brought her nothing but shame.
Dariella took up her call.
“Hello, mother.”
She called, missing me, want to shout my name. She laughed at what she said. The chairlady spoke up weak.
“Come home, Dariella.”
She hanged up. Dariella, feeling uncomfortable, stood up and said, “Troy, I need to head home. I don't know what's wrong with mother. She sounded faint.”
They had to leave, not grabbing enough dinner.
Back at home, the chairlady was in her room, starring at her children's picture, Dariellas and her parents picture, crying profusely.
Then a knock came on her door. She went out to check who it was and noticed a paper was dropped at the doorsteps. She picked it up and opened it.
A small note was written. It's reads:
“Your secrets would be uncovered between Mr. Greg and his wife. I know what happened that day.”
Seeing the letter, she looked around, shut the door, and screamed, “No, no, no! I was wrong. Going after them, they died because of me.”
She quickly burnt the letter in flames, and she had an attack. She fell, crying for help, and died.
Rushing to know what was going on with the chairlady, she pushed open the door, seeing the old woman lying helpless. She ran to her, calling, “Mother! Mother! Please don't do this. I've told you to stop playing this kind of prank on me.”
Waiting a bit for the chairlady's response, she heard none. She placed her ears on her chest and found out the chairlady was dead.
She screamed, “No, no, no! Don't leave me! Don't go! I will I survive? Who will pay me hard on my back? Who will shout my name and order me around? Who will order birthday cakes for me?”
She kept recalling moments she had with her in tears.
Troy had pity on her. He said calmly, “Dariella, she's gone. If she was alive, she wouldn't have expected this from you. You need to be brave.”
She stood up, took her cell phone, and called an ambulance, which took the chairlady's body to the cemetery, where her body will be embalmed.
Before the chairlady died, she saw her lawyer and told him that her WILL should be read on the day she's to be buried.
The day of the burial was fixed by her son Roberto. On the 3rd of August was to be her burial.
Dariella couldn't believe someone she love has left her again. She wet her pillows everyday, refusing to eat. She skipped work and waited for what next would happen.
It's was 3rd August. Everyone was seated at the venue, HARMON FUNERAL HOME, 571 FOREST AVE, STATEN ISLAND.
Her two children was present, Roberto and Ava, who brought her two children, the chairlady's grandchildren, Liam and Ethan, her nephew Loe, her adopted daughter Dariella, friends, staffs, all with heavy hearts except Roberto, who kept on smiling horribly.
The burial commerced. Her lawyer, Carlos, was present to read her will. He slowly opened the page that the WILL was written.
He started with Roberto.
“The chairlady has given you ten percent of CUMMING GROUP. The rest will be given to Dariella.”
He went on to her daughter Ava, a stylish woman full with pride, envy and hatred towards Dariella.
“The chairlady gave you twenty percent of MORGAN STANLEY shares. The rest will be handed over to Dariella.”
To her nephew Loe, she appointed him as manager of JP MORGAN CHASE.
And Dariella, she should maintain her position as C.E.O of JP MORGAN CHASE, but tied Dariella to a condition. All this will be hers if only she marries and stays in her marriage for a year. Then all of the benefits from her son and daughters share will be hers, and she'll become the next chairlady.
Dariella was shocked. She cried bitterly but was controlled by Troy.
“What mother! You've also hated us till death. As long as I live, I'll make sure you don't rest in peace! And I'll take what's rightfully mine.”
Everyone showed Dariella their true sides at the burial.
Roberto walked up Dariella and said softly but rudely, “Don't think you'll enjoy the wealth that belongs to me, and I won't sit back watching. Watch your back, Dariella.”
At his words, Dariella was persuaded and caught everyone's attention. She took a glass, poured wine into it, and said, “Cheers, everyone, to my new life from the chairlady's LAST WILL.”
She said, “Everything will belong to me if I married before I death. She gave me a ring that belongs to her. She told me to give it to the man I would love. Today I have seen that man, and he's present here. We'll be married for a year.”
At this, everyone was startled, and murmurs filled the surface.
“I'm going to walk to him and propose.”
She walked towards Troy and said, “Marry me.”
Troy stood dumbfounded and shocked and wondered why she was doing that. A demon in a contract marriage.
He said loudly, “No, I won't marry you,” and he left, rejecting the ring she offered.
She wasn't shocked at his response but never expected such disgrace from him. She took her bag and left after Troy did.
As Troy walked through the noisy road, he felt bad.
Did he do the right thing? A life as a demon isn't bound to love. Should he accept? What will happen to her if he didn't marry her? What awaits her?
He ran back to catch up with her but didn't meet up. He went down to the house and found her crying deeply.
He rushed and hugged her and gave her a kiss on her forehead.
They both stood still, starring at each other. She withdrew back from him and said to him, “Why did you come back? Will you marry me?”
