Chapter 1
What? What do you mean by he’s dead? We just had a big party last night and this morning he is already dead? My husband! Dead? Stabbed? How?
My father! How did a man full of life just die all of a sudden?
Boss is dead? It can not be possible! He can’t be dead. No I said no!
A one time quiet room had become one of those local markets in Nigeria where traders make a whole lot of noise while scouting for customers. Abby had thrown a big party the previous night, now it has become the last one. Very sad! No one knew why he threw the party. I mean we were not celebrating a new born baby, neither were we celebrating the successful opening of one of those branches of Abby’s company. But then, do we have to celebrate something? Do we? Can’t we just throw a party and just make merry? I mean that is what rich people do right?
Well Abby was a multi billionaire. He was the CEO of ABBY’S ROOM. ABBY’S ROOM is a global organization that does virtually everything Technology. ABBY’S products are very reliable and they are second to none. Recently there has been a massive expansion in Africa. Africa? Oh yes Africa. He has been in Africa for the past 25years. Well he hasn’t just been doing business, one of the things he did earned him his marriage to Stella and the birth of his son Daniel who is now 22 years.
The party was a sudden one but the turn up was more than the ones that came with an early information. About that. Abby just came home and asked everyone to get ready for a big party and when he was asked what the call for celebration was for he said it was for life! By everyone I mean Stella Abby’s wife, Daniel Abby’s son, Nkoli their house girl and Adamu the gate man. A perfect everyone right?
Abby corpse will not be buried until the suspect was brought to book, so the kept his corpse in the police custody as investigation went on.
“Stella good morning.”
“good morning and who are you?”
“I am Inspector Susan and this is Inspector John, my colleague.”
“Okay”
“We are here to ask you a few questions about the death of your husband”.
“Okay, please come in”.
“Thank you”. “so can you tell us what you know about the death of your husband?”
“Well I know nothing other than he was stabbed”.
“How about you tell us what happened before his death?”
“Hmm! Abby was a good man. So nice, so cool to be with. He wanted the good of everyone around him and he never got in a fight with anyone. Why will someone want to kill him?”.
“Did both of you have a fight?”
“Like I said, Abby was a good man. No one will want to quarrel with him”.
“After the party I went to my friend’s place. It was not long I got a call that Abby was dead”.
“Who was that lady with you when we came in earlier?”
“Oh! That is Nkoli and she is our maid.”
“Really? We would like to have a chat with her”.
“Sure! Nkoli! Nkoli! Nkoli!”
“yes madam! I am coming.”
“Come over here, the police wants to talk to you”. “okay I will leave the both of you”.
“Nkoli can you please tell us what happened before the death of your boss?
“Chai! my boss. You know my boss threw a very big party and there were so many people in attendance and because I am the maid it was my duty to make sure that the whole persons that came were served enough drinks. Later everyone had to retire to their homes. I felt this heavy feeling over my body and that made me to take a nap. So when I got up in the morning, I had to do the cleaning, I saw my boss’s door open. Normally, I shouldn’t have entered but because the door was opened for the first time in a long time I had to go inside only to see my boss covered in the pool of his own blood. It was only then I raised the alarm! Do not tell anyone but I think my boss’s murderer is his son Dan. ”
“Why do you say so?”
“Because he is very rugged and he does everything an innocent will not do. He is not always at home and he has this very wayward life. What do you think?”
“So where can we find this Daniel?”
“He should be in his friend’s house. That boy hardly stays at home”.
Nkoli led them out of the gate as she takes the left and walks four blocks down. The street was decorated with ornamental flowers and trees. The estate was guided with the estate security outfit. You could tell in a glance that this estate was occupied by very wealthy persons who were not politicians. The estate had a particular structural pattern. Every house was the same and had the same pattern of fencing. The estate was fenced right round with a high and solid wall. These wall had electric wires that would combat smarter criminals.
There were just two gates for entrance and exit respectively, both located at the same point, the north end of the estate. The fence was 30feet tall the same height as a-one story building. It was painted blue on the lower coach and white on the upper coach. The thickness was enough for someone to stand and even run without falling. At the entrance gate was a an office for the security officials. If it was a pedestrian that was coming in, he or she would pass through a censor that will perform a 5-second check.
On the other hand if it was a vehicle, the vehicle will pass through the censor buried underneath 3feet before you get to the gate. For occupants of the estate, entrance and exit was registered by just performing a biometric confirmation. For a non occupant, your entrance was only confirmed by your host sending a call note to the security office. This visit too was also documented.
In the interior, there were just 50 buildings and all were duplexes. Each building was surrounded by a fence, half the exterior fence but the same colour. Every building had a small gate 10 feet wide. The thickness of these fences was 6 inches.
