CHAPTER TWO
Inspectors Susan and John had to ask Nkoli to go back when they were already at the gate where she directed them too.
“Dude you know I way better than you in this game. Right?”
“f**k off man!”
“You say what?”
“Both of us know that you ain’t better at nothing”
“Are you kidding me? I beat you five times now. So…”
“Um…Good day sirs!”
The conversation was going on smoothly until both inspectors came in. Daniel and his friends had just come out of the game room where they had played been playing computer games for 3 hours. Daniel and his friend had come into the sitting room to take a break. Speaking of breaks, their break was their argument of who was the best, for this argument to be a peaceful one, they had to help themselves with whisky and and sticks of cigarettes. The inspectors had interrupted their argument so all they could do was to put up a fight. Well it didn’t go well as the inspectors had beaten Dan’s friend and locked him outside the room.
“Wooo! Take a chill pill man! It hasn’t gotten to that!”
“I am inspector Susan and this Inspector John”.
“Wuh! Why didin’t you tell me you were feds?”
“We were going to tell you but you had already put up a fight. What is the name?”
“My parents named me Daniel, but my friends call me Danny-mighty. So you can just call me Dan..”
“It is Danny-mighty!”
“Now you come man!” Daniel was now relaxed.
“Tell us about your father’s death”
“My father was a very rich man. The man knew how to be good, man! Like he knew how to throw parties you know. The man just threw a party this time and he told us nothing! Well me and boys like to party, we stormed the place and we drank all the way down. When the party was over I left with my boys. Me and my boys were the first people to leave the party”.
“But you and your boys were drunk. How did you know that you were the first to leave the party?”
“Wuh? You think I will lie to you? The gate man. You can ask him. Me and my boys were the last to enter and we were the last to leave”.
“Oh! The gate man. Thank you Danny-mighty!”
“Yoo! Man anytime.”
It took the police 10mins to walk back to Late Mr. Abby’s building. Meanwhile on their way back to the building, they had received a call from the bureau. The anatomist had already performed an autopsy on the corpse. So they had to finish with Adamu and return back to the bureau.
“Abeg who dey there” Adamu responded to the heavy knock on the gate with a loud voice in pidgin. When he noticed that the person knocking was not going to talk, he rushed out and opened the gate.
“Oh! Inspector na you?”
“Yes na us”.
“Wait make I go call madam”.
“No we are here for you”.
“Kai! I hope say problem no dey?”
“Problem no dey for now”. “Tell us wetin you no about your oga death”
“Kai! My oga na good man ooo… e go hard before you find say person and my oga dey quarrel. Me since them carry this work give me, I never enter that house before. I no dey enter the house sote my oga don talk say this gate and this compound be my office. So that night, I just dey open gate dey close am. The party dey very hot, I dey hear the music from this my office, you know as I dey work I dey dance. I tell you make Allah bless that DJ. Him na correct guy. So that night I just dey open dey close until Oga son and him friends come enter, you know say that one na party guy. Around 4am kwa, him be the first wey comot. Na him I come open gate for 4:30am before other people come dey go small small.
“what time did every guest leave the house?”
“na around 5am. Na when all the guest bin comot”. “This morning I come dey hear shout say Oga don die.”
“Who shouted?”
“Na Nkoli shout first”
“Where did your madam go?”
“I no know ooo…I dey sleep when madam comot. E be like say na Nkoli open gate for madam”
“Okay. Thank you. If we need you, we will call you”.
In less than 5minutes the inspectors had driven out of the estate. In less than 30mins the had gotten back to the bureau.
“Now the story sounds somewhat confusing. Whoever that murdered Dr. Abby did it during the time Adamu was sleeping. You know he mentioned the fact that he didn’t know when Stella had left. But the only person that might know is Nkoli who said she was not aware either. How is that possible? Does it mean that Abby himself had opened the gate for his wife?”
“Sad indeed! That was the last time he opened the gate for his wife.” “So now what? Does it mean that Abby might have opened the gate and maybe he didn’t close it accurately because he was not the professional gate man”
“So being a gate man is now a skill. Seriously!”
“ Are you a gate man?”
“Oga please go and sit down”. “My own is for Jake to just cut off this whole stress by the telling us what we should be looking at because as it stands now, this murderer is already playing with our brains. There is no way forward in this case now, the only way forward is the clue that Jerry will give us.” “Oh he is here now!”
“Hello Susan and John. How are you today?”
“Jake we are not fine. Tell us what you’ve got”.
“Come on guys! Take a chill pill. Everything will be okay. I mean this is not the first time and this was what we signed up for. Right?
“Who are you motivating? This is the first time a foreigner is dying on our soil and the news is getting to us from the office of the U.N. secretary. Have you gone through the portfolio of Abby? I really don’t know why he had no private security details. That man is respected by every ruler in the world. His death has brought foreign concerns on us. They even think the government has something to do with it. The FBI will come here in two weeks time to take this case from us, and if they come here and we have nothing or we haven’t found our murderer yet, then that means we will loose our jobs.
