‘’We are almost at my mother’s house remember everything we discussed this afternoon, my mother is not hard to please.’’

‘’Sure boss.’’

I roll my eyes, ‘’stop sulking already, we are supposed to be acting like a couple in love.’’

A couple of minutes later, he pulls up in front of my mother’s house then he steps out walks round and comes to my side, he helps me out of the car and we walk hand in hand towards the door.

‘’Mummy!’’ I call out as I push the door open.

‘’I am in the living room my darling,’’ she replies.

I lead him to the living room where I find my mother and Robert sitting next to each other watching television.

‘’Child of my youth,’’ she exclaims when she sees me.

‘’Mother of mine.’’

She stands up and embraces me then she looks at Daniel and back at me obviously waiting for an explanation.

Mum met Daniel when she came through to bring me lunch at the office and I have told her a couple of times how much I hate him.

‘’Mummy! I am sure you remember Daniel from the office, he used to work as my P.A until now.’’

‘’Okay,’’ she responds waiting for me to say more.

I turn to Daniel, ‘’Babe, I am sure you remember my mum,’’ I say and he nods his head.

‘’This is her partner Robert.’’

He extends his hand towards mum and after they shake hands, he greets Robert too.

‘’Take a seat and please feel at home,’’ Robert says.

‘’Thank you,’’ he responds before he takes a seat, sitting next to him, he puts his arm around me.

‘’So what is going on here?’’

‘’Daniel and I are getting married,’’ I smile.

‘’What do you mean you are getting married? Since when?’’

‘’Daniel and I fell in love I don’t even have to explain that in details, I just wanted you to know about this before you hear the news in the media, we will have an official engagement after you meet his people.’’

‘’Congratulations are in order child,’’ Robert says.

I frown, I hate it when he calls me child and he knows it but he keeps doing it to annoy me.

‘’Can I talk to you in private?’’ Mum asks.

‘’Sure.’’

‘’Excuse us,’’ she says before she leads me to the bedroom.

‘’What is going on?’’ she asks when she shuts the door behind her back.

‘’What are you talking about?’’

‘’When did this happen? You hated this guy, why are you suddenly getting married to him?’’

‘’I feel in love mum.’’

‘’How?’’

‘’What’s with all these questions? Don’t you want to me to be happy?’’

‘’I want you to be happy baby girl but I also need to know what’s going on.’’

‘’There’s nothing going on, I just need your support mummy please.’’

‘’Are you sure you love him?’’

‘’I do,’’ I pout.

She sighs, ‘’I don’t even understand what’s going on but since you are my daughter and I trust you, I will support you.’’

‘’Thank you mummy.’’

‘’You are welcome.’’

‘’I hope you are not doing this for revenge.’’

I laugh, ‘’I love Daniel mum and he loves me too, I know it’s hard for you to understand but I want to give us a chance.’’

‘’Fine.’’

We head back into the living room and it isn’t long after that before the food is served. As we eat, mum asks Daniel some questions and I watch as he convincingly explains to her how he fell in love with me. The story is so believable, one look at mum and I know she will soon believe everything he is saying, Daniel is so good at this, I have no doubts Mr. Sondashi will buy this story of ours.

Sunday evening, I have just finished getting dressed for the night ahead when a knock sounds on my bedroom door.

‘’Come in,’’ I say, the door swings open and Jessie walks in.

‘’The people doing your hair and makeup are here, your media management too.’’

‘’Lead them to the makeup room, let them start setting up, I will join them shortly.’’

‘’Sure,’’ she walks out. Grabbing my phone, I call Daniel and he answers almost immediately.

‘’Hello!’’

‘’Where are you?’’

‘’I am on my way.’’

‘’Okay.’’

Walking out of my room I head into the makeup room and sit down in front of the mirror.

‘’What look are you going with tonight?’’ My makeup artist Beckie asks, she has been doing my makeup for the last couple of years- she is very good at what she does, she is the only one I trust with my hair and makeup.

‘’I want a simple but elegant nude look, do your magic Janet you know my face better than I do.’’

She starts to do my makeup while the photographers take photos and videos for my social media platforms.

I sit very still and she does her wonders for the next couple of minutes and when she is done, I barely recognize myself.

They take some more photos of me before I join Daniel in the living room, the minute he sees me he shoots me a captivating smile.

‘’You look stunning sweetheart.’’

‘’Thank you babe.’’ I look back at him from head to toe and must say I am amazed.

The Daniel I am used to seeing isn’t this man standing in front of me, with the right clothes and a good haircut, he is actually handsome. After posing for some photos, he offers me his hand and I place mine in his.

Leading me out of the house he helps me into the car before he takes the drive seat and drives us to Mr. Sondashi’s house.

‘’You are ready?’’ he asks when he parks the car in the parking lot next to other cars. The

‘’Let’s do this,’’ I say. He helps me out of the car and we walk towards the entrance. I am nervous about the game we are about to play tonight, I hope we manage to convince Mr. Sondashi so he can finally hire me.

‘’We can do this, I know we can,’’ he says as if reading my mind.

When we enter the house, Mr. Sondashi welcomes us, extending his hand he introduces Daniel to his wife Palesa.

In turn, I introduce Daniel as my fiancé and he politely greets them both.

‘’Pleased to meet you Daniel and congratulations on your engagement,’’ says Palesa.

‘’Thank you.’’

Daniel and I are instantly separated as Palesa grabs on to me so she can introduce me to some women, Daniel walks away with Mr. Sondashi, I pray Daniel will be on his best behavior and I hope he doesn’t say anything that will jeopardize our situation. We walk to a small group of women who are engrossed in a conversation and Palesa introduces me- because of the kind of job i do, it’s not a surprise that most of the people already know or have heard of me before.

‘’So you are engaged and you didn’t post anything on social media?’’ one of them asks a few minutes later.

I force a chuckle, ‘’I wanted to keep things private plus we are yet to do an official engagement, photos will be posted on all my social media platforms.’’

‘’Well we shall be waiting, I really can’t wait to see what you have in stock for us.’’

‘’And when are you guys planning on getting married? I hope you invite us to the wedding.’’

‘’Soon but I will not avail the date yet, I want to surprise my audience.’’

I am still talking with the women when Daniel walks up behind me and wraps his arm around my waist, drawing me back, he drops a kiss to my neck and whispers, ‘’this is part of the act, we have to make it believable.’’

I turn and stare at him with a wide smile, ‘’you miss me already baby?’’

‘’Yes, can I have a moment with you?’’

‘’Sure, ladies can you excuse us.’’

He holds my hand and we walk away, I hear a collective sigh among them, I have obviously given them something to gossip about.

‘’How are we doing?’’ I ask Daniel a few minutes later, we are standing at the far end of the room.

‘’So far so good, Mr. Sondashi asked me a few questions about you, I must say he was impressed.’’

‘’Great, continue making me proud sweetheart,’’ I lean in and kiss his forehead
