Her

As she got closer to the door I ran back and pretended as if I was just coming upstairs.

“oh its you” She said. “I will call you back”. She talked to her supposed destined mate.

“What do you want” she asks as I neared her room.

“ Your boyfriend is here”. She just looked at me and nodded, as I was turning I got a glimpse of Mr snuggles.

“Why do you still have that” I looked straight ahead.

With a smirk she says “because it meanssomething to you” and closed the door at my face.

Going back to my room to change and head out just to pass time before night cause I know I would not be allowed to have breakfast with them, I can’t help but wonder why Lila won’t tell her parents about her true mate, because she wanted to be the alpha’s mate? So what will happen to both their destined mates, poor souls. I was heading to my room when Aurora stopped in front of me.

“stay a little and excuse yourself so that we can be the family we are supposed to be before you came along” she warns.

Getting downstairs everyone was already seated. So I just sat opposite Luke who by the way kept on looking at me weirdly, like he’s just seeing me for the first time.

“shouldn’t you be heading out Ember” Aurora reminded me halfway through breakfast.

“Yes mum”. I thanked all and was about to take my leave when Luke stopped meme.

“Today is your birthday right? and will I be seeing you tonight”

“yes and yes like the rest who just turned 18”. I could feel Lila glaring but I ignored her and Luke too who suddenly became interested in me. I walked down to my special place, a small place after the old people’s home, behind the water fall, quiet and warm. Brought out my book and started reading.

Tap. Half of the book I was reading landed on my face and I was awakened, looking aroundit was already dark out, I sat up immediately gathering my books and running towards the house to drop my books, freshen up and get changed. As I passed the initiation ground on route to the house I slowed down so I won’t be seen by anyone. Passing through the bushes I heard someone saying “ He told me he wasn’t so sure of us now, that he thinks he’s her destined mate, he will confirm tonight and I need you to do something about her, even if he’s not sure yet”.

Lila? Nah, couldn’t be her, probably some poor girl finding out that her boyfriend found his true mate. I don’t have time for this.Getting home I immediately took my bath and wore the short black dress I brought out earlier, just a simple dress to look presentable if at all I will find a mate tonight.

I left immediately through the same bushes but I bumped into someone.

“ Ember?”

“Asher?, what are you doing here?” I replied.Asher was a soon to be elder, But he was appointed to be the crystal holder two years ago because of his Empathetic powers. He was the perfect fit for the job.

“uhm...I was just taking a walk” he replied nervously. He is acting strange maybe cause of all the emotion in the air and it’s affecting him.

“Okay then, I should be going to stand in line, see you out there” Before I could go he touched me and said sorry.

“sorry for wha... Dad?, where is Asher”

“Asher?” “we have been looking everywhere for you the line is almost ending”

“ What are you talking about , they just started lining up” I replied

“I don’t have time for this, follow me” he stated.

As we got to the grounds, truly the line was ending, you could see those that have gotten their abilities, found mates and just hanging around to turn for the first time. what happened out there, Did I imagine it all?

There was a swift movement in the air as the girl before me stood bravely and bended the air, you could here cheers all around.

“Next”

Feeling a shift in my emotions I thought, What if am not good enough? What if my powers are less significant because of my birth? Am I worthy? Will I truly be blessed by the moon goddess. What if I’m punished for being illegitimate?

“Ember, daughter of beta Paul Jackson, stepforward and hold the crystal” said the elder.

Where is Asher? Isn’t this his job?

Taking a deep breath, I touched the crystal feeling undeserving, sinful, and definitely not ready but why?

Suddenly a white bright light came out of the crystal ball and hit my face, All that could be heard in the once quiet arena was my shouts, pain pain pain. I kept on shouting till the pain reduced and a hand touched me from behind.

“Ember, Are you okay?, Turn please” I recognised my Dad’s voice.

I did and I could hear collective shocks. I could feel something like a burn on my face? Was I wounded or why was my feeling like it was burning ? I turned only to be shocked ofthe image that was reflecting back at me from the crystal. A nasty shiny silver scar ran fromthe upper left side of my face straight down to my jaw.

“Ember?” Luke called out to me

“ So you are truly my mate” And for the firsttime in my life I could see how Luke was, coffee brown eyes, his hair, everything felt like I was seeing him for the first time and all I wanted to do was to run to him, he felt like home.

“Mate” I said out loud. Whoa where did that come from. He was looking at me with confusion and irritation.

“Child state your powers” An Elder said.

“I uhmm”

“She doesn’t have one, I can’t sense anything from her” Asher said facing me.

Where did he come from?

“Does that mean she is a rogue?” asked Luke.

“I can’t be, for rogues have sinned and unfit to receive the moon goddess blessings, and they are not gifted a mate but I have one” I defended myself.

“I am afraid you are one” replied Asher.

What? What is happening? How?

“In that case” Luke interrupted my thoughts “ I Luke Suns, Son Of Alpha of Flora pack...

I know where this is heading to, “ Luke wait no, but he didn’t listen. “Reject you Ember Jackson Second daughter of beta of flora pack as my destined mate”.

“No!, an unrecognisable voice came out of meas I fell to the ground feeling pain, betrayed and lost. All this pain for someone I barely know? He doesn’t even want to listen, he never wanted me.

“ I instead take your sister, Lila Jackson to be my chosen mate and Luna and to rule beside me if she would have me”

“I would” Lila replied.

“ Ember Jackson, failing to state your powers after the initiation process you are hear by labelled a Rogue” I looked up at Asher but his eyes where filled with pain. But why? And what will become of me now?
