Much to her distaste and displeasure, that was not the case.
A black fog enveloped them as they fell, then a roaring noise filled the air. It rang in her ears so loudly that she became nauseous and disorientated. With a bang and jerk motion, they were no longer falling. For the third time in a matter of weeks, she had been imprisoned against her will. It now became Seraphina’s top priority to get out of that loop.
She leveraged herself against his broad shoulders, pulled her whole upper body weight up and slammed her elbow right into the soft part of his neck.
However, this did not have the desired effect and he instead growled, if there was ever a word for it, and threw her to the ground. Her head cracked against the stone floor before she could catch her fall.
Ringing filled her ears again as he grouched down and grabbed her neck. In a low voice and a slightly accented tone he spoke. “Try that again and find out what happens.” Her immediate response was to slam her palm in an upward direction right into his slightly crooked nose. The man barely flinched; however, he did stop and glower at her with hazel eyes. “Your choice.”
The man then grabbed her by her wrists, pinning them together with one of his large hands, and pulled her to chains jutting from the wall. Seraphina struggled against him until he once again threw her over his shoulder and ignored her squirming. “Let me go.” She emphasized each word as she hit his back.
With little effort on his half, she was changed to the wall with her hand above her head. She screamed while ranting to the world. “Why must everyone suck so damn much, I have one i***t mission and jerks like you keep getting in the damn way! Leave me alone, is that too much to ask you ass?!” Most of the time Seraphina was able to hide her upbringing of vulgar language and flashes of anger, but in times like these it slips out. The Monarch was supposed to grow up wise and kind but right now she was anything but.
After her outburst, she put all of her weight on her wrists that were chained above her head and kicked him directly in the chest. However, it was like kicking a rock face, he caught her legs in one arm, and pinned them against his side. Not once did his eyes leave her face. Though clearly running out of patience, he didn’t yell or scream, just waited until she was done.
When she got all of her frustration that had built up out, some in words, the rest in thrashing around, he raised one dark gray eye brow and blinked slowly. “You have one of two choices, do what I tell you to do, or die.” He then dropped her feet so they slammed into the ground directly on her heals. Not only were her wrists screaming in pain but now her heals were too. “You have till sunrise to decide.”
He then strode away, his feet echoing off the dark walls for a long time after. She was left in total darkness wondering how in the world had she gotten into this situation.
Seraphina was surprised, and absolutely furious that she was in this situation again. However, at the same time, not surprised at all. She had spent her entire life being controlled by people around her, all of them hungering after the power she would eventually possess. If she was any less of a person, Seraphina would want them all dead.
Knowing that it would likely take Aster far longer than she had to find her, she stopped fighting the chains and breathed. She let all the anger she was feeling wash through her then out. It was the way of the fae, feel the emotions then let them go before they fester. Her heart steadied, emotions now gone, she opened her eyes and began looking around the room.
There were very few things she could see, there were little glow worms rolling around but not enough to give her clues as to where she was. The chill in the stagnant air told her that they were defiantly in a cave, however looking at the rock around her told her it was not in a place she had been before. There were little blue glints of rock threaded in the stone, now that she stared at it longer there was a light glow emitting from the stone.
She then looked up at her bindings, they dug into her wrist however they were brimming with magical energy. They had been enchanted. Adrian had only been teaching her how to protect her mind, and how to fight back against attackers, they had pushed off magic until she had those basics down.
Adrian, of course Adrian.
Now all she had to do was figure out a way how to get out of this situation. Without the help of someone else. The chains rattled around her wrists as she shifted. The pain. Becoming unmanageable. However, in that moment, she knew that though she had been practicing with Adrian, she was still not strong enough to do things on her own.
Her next thought she had was to talk to the man himself, it was still the middle of the day but she knew that if she called to him, he would find a way of going to the dream world. They had spend every night together since she left, their mental bond was growing stronger by the day. Seraphina knew that he would come.
Relaxing her body, she let her mind follow. She felt the edges of her mind and settled into the back of all of her thoughts. When her body was relaxed enough as it could be being tied down with chains. She felt her mind slowly drift off, and that cord, the precious little cord that she has gotten used to, dragged her off into her mind space.
Seraphina had finally managed to construct a secure location in her mind for her to travel to when she left her body. They had focused on her mind space enough that there were multiple barriers in place that kept her safe. Every time she entered the dream world, she had her own space that belonged to only her.
Adrian allowed her access to his mind space, but preferred to enter hers. It was safer for her that way; her mind would defend her if she was in trouble here.
Her astral feet landed on the soft grass in her pretty little hollow. There was a small stream that danced through the center of the small clearing, a breeze flited her hair over her shoulder and brought the scent of honey to her nose. She felt like she was home, however she didn’t let herself rest and enjoy the feeling.
Seraphina found the large rock that jutted over the stream, perfectly soft against her skin, and sat down. Letting her mind relax she could feel her astral body solidify, if her emotions were too out of sorts then she would be yanked back to her body.
