“What are you doing?” Genevieve asked from right behind me.
I slammed the laptop shut, but obviously not before she saw what was on my screen.
“Are you buying a house? I thought you lived with Mr. MacKellar. What’s going on?”
I turned to face her, laughing until I saw the look of terror in her eyes. “Whoa, calm down.”
“Calm down? Don’t you know you never tell a person who’s freaking out to calm down? It doesn’t help anything. What the hell is going on? Am I losing my job?”
“Genevieve, everything is fine. I promise. Why are you losing it?”
“Because I’m pregnant,” she blurted, then burst into tears.
