CHAPTER 6

"Isabella… Isabella.." Miles looked up her name in a document he was holding. "Yes! There it is! Her name is Isabella Campbell. She worked in Rosella's restaurant until she was fired just yesterday." "Fired?" Xander asked Miles curiously. "Yeah. She got in trouble with one of their customers. According to her, she was only being honest to the guy, said he's rude to staff, and she was fired" Miles said, also reading from a document from his hand. "Hmmm.. she sounds like trouble." Xander said, moving his chair forward. Pacing his chest closer to Miles. "Yes boss. This was the same thing she told Nora. I feel like she is a tough girl, why do you ask about her boss?" Miles said, narrowing his eyes to his anticipation. "Miles, what do you think? How would she do for my contract wife? Cause I think I've found just what I need." Xander said, his emotions indifferent, neither happy nor sad. "Woah. Man… you're serious? That girl looks like one with no feelings. She looks stubborn. I know what I saw back there." Miles contradicted. He knew this was coming. "Feelings? Don't forget why we're doing this Miles. It's a contract and I need someone who has no feelings. We'd rule it out of the marriage. I need someone tough, someone stubborn, but calm, humble. And I saw everything in that lady." Xander said. "Hmmm.. Man, I don't know what to say, it sounds crazy. Will pops even accept her? She has no good background. She's just a common cook. You sure you can do this?" Miles asked with eagerness. He needed to make sure Xander wasn't putting himself into a mess. "That's my decision. And it's final. Get her to my office and let me speak to her. Don't forget Miles. Love isn't real. It's just an illusion and I can never fall into that illusion ever again." Miles nodded. He wasn't so supportive of what Xander was about to do, but in the end, it wouldn't really matter. It was just a 3 month marriage contract. And who he signs it up with would not really matter. Even if it was a robot. Miles pulled out his phone and called the HR manager. "Get Isabella to the boss's office now! He wants to have a word with her." "What do you mean she's gone?" "What?!!" "Okay, you know what, fix the other ladies an appointment for an interview." Miles hung up the call. His mood changed. "What is the problem Miles?" Xander asked, noticing the difference in Miles' face. "She's gone, boss." Miles said, counting his words. "What do you mean she's gone?" Xander asked immediately getting up from his seat. "Is she done with the screening?" "No. He said that she had to leave because her friend was in danger. Some masked men are after her friend." Miles said. "Do you have her location? We're going to meet her now!" "But Xander .." "Get my driver ready along with one security guard. We're leaving now!" Xander said, putting on his suit which he enveloped around his chair and began to walk outside his office. "Think this through man. There are other women you can pick from. You can just forget about this." Xander paused. Turned to look at Miles. His face was not funny. He gave Miles a stern look. "Alright.. alright. She's headed to Hatricia park." Miles said following his boss quickly. °°°°°°°°°°°°° "Pick up… pick up…!" Isabella cried out as she kept calling Amanda's phone in the taxi she entered. But it kept refusing to connect. "Miss, I can't go any further. I just got information that Hatricia is being attacked by robbers. We have to go back!" The driver exclaimed. Isabella dipped her hand in her purse, fetched a $3 bill and gave it to the driver, and then she hopped out of the car, running into the park. Thick smoke was seen coming out of the building. The whole place was in total chaos. People were seen fleeing away from the scene, but Isabella was running right into it. "Amanda!!! Amanda!!!" She called out running into the scene. Finally, she got into the building. On the floor of the building lay a few dead bodies. "s**t! God no! What the f**k?" Isabella said as she tried to navigate her way through the hall. She almost wanted throwing up. She couldn't stand seeing dead bodies, blood pouring from people's dead bodies. She began to run around looking for where Amanda was. She felt very scared. She was alike and no one was here. What if she was being watched or followed. She quickly brought out her phone and dailed Amanda's number. "Brrrrr… brrrrr…" a phone began to ring from a distance. The sound was so loud that it reverberated through the room. "Amanda!" Isabella followed the trail of the sound looking for her friend at all cost. Finally, she saw the phone on the floor still buzzing. Besides the phone was the hand of a pretty lady. The hand was familiar. Even the hair. But the person's face wasn't visible as it was directly facing the ground. Isabella's legs were shaking. This could be.. no .! Gently and fearfully, she stopped down and placed her hands on the lady's shoulder and turned her over gently.. gently… gently until.. "No! Amanda!" She gasped as she saw her friend bleeding from her abdomen. But she was still breathing. As she was about to call for help, she suddenly heard a gunshot from one end of the building. She paused. "Who are you, and what the f**k you doin here?" A masked man called out. His face was covered with a black mask and was holding a pistol and a black bag which probably had money in it. "Please, don't hurt me. Please!" Suddenly, the police siren was heard closeby and the masked man was afraid and eager to run, so he walked up to Isabella. "Take this s**t now. Take this!" He said forcing the pistol into Isabella's hand. Then, he brought out another pistol and raised it up to Isabella. She was scared. She had never held a gun. "Now, hold it and don't move. Believe me if you do, I'mma shoot your ass!" The masked man said in a stern voice and slowly walking away, he ran off, the gun still in Isabella's hands when suddenly…. "Go down! Hands behind your back! Drop your weapon!" The police dashed in seeing the pistol in Isabella's hands standing beside Amanda. Quickly, the ambulance ran in and took Amanda and other injured persons away for treatment. Isabella struggled to break free from the handcuff as she was being taken away screaming Amanda's name. As soon as they were finally brought outside and headed towards the police car, a big black SUV parked in front of them. The police officers stopped moving and waited to see who it was. The door opened and a long muscular leg that wore a fancy black shoe. The shoe had a sleek silhouette, with a polished black leather upper that gleams in the light. The vamp was low, with a pointed toe and a simple but elegant strap across the instep. The heel was tall and sharp, adding height and grace to whomever was wearing it. The whole shoe exudes confidence and sophistication, perfect for a business meeting or a night out on the town. "Let her be. She's innocent!" Isabella gasped as she saw Alexander Reynolds running out of the car towards her. Miles was running towards them also. "Sir Alex, we request you stand down sir as our captive here is charged with murder." One of the polices interjected. "The masked men killed more then ten persons. Did you catch any of them? It did you see Miss Isabella here commiting the murder?" Xander asked confidently exuding his wealth. "Xander. You do not understand. This is a trivial matter and.." "2 thousand dollars and you keep shut. She is not a murderer!" Xander said and looked at Miles who was holding a briefcase. Miles then opened the briefcase revealing stacks of money arranged properly inside. Isabella was shocked to the bone. What was going on? Few minutes ago, she caused a havoc in Mr. Xander's company and then she left without a notice. Was she about to face a bug problem? She wasn't so sure, but at this juncture, she was grateful that sir Xander had saved her. "Hello Miss. You will be coming with me to my company. We have business to talk!" Xander said in a stern voice and his cold eyes sent shiver to Isabella's spine. She immediately knew that something was wrong. "Sir, I'm very grateful for your help. I cannot repay you. But right now, my friend needs me and I have to go to the hospital with her. She's in serious danger!" Isabella pleaded confidently looking directly into Xander's eyes. She wasn't comfortable at all, but she had to prove her stubbornness. The whole street was empty as people had fled. If people had been there, they would have loved to tske pictures with this Alexander Reynolds. 'Damn! He's cute!" Isabella honestly admitted to herself. "Your friend's hospital bills will be cleared. But first, let's talk business! Hurry up, we've got no time to waste!" Xander said and walked back gracefully to his car. Isabella stared at Miles. "Sir, am I in some kind of trouble? What's going on?" She asked curiously. "You'll find out. Let's go. My boss hates delay!" "But sir, I…" "Don't be stubborn lady. I guess you like it more in jail right?" Miles said and turned to leave as well. Then, Isabella quickly ran behind him and got into the car. What lay ahead? She couldn't tell.
