Chapter 6

1167 Words
In the elevator of the building, Patricia repeatedly glanced at the young man beside her, occasionally revealing a contemptuous expression. Having been Rosalind's agent for so long, she had only heard of Rosalind having a never-do-well brother named Merrick, and now this. From the looks of him, he seemed like another freeloader. Patricia's contempt deepened. "Asher, is it? I don't care how you fooled Rosalind, but I warn you, don't get any ideas and stay away from her. Otherwise, you'll die a very painful death! You should know what kind of suitors surround a star like Rosalind. Any one of them could crush you into dust with a flick of their finger. Trying to mooch off her? Sorry, wrong place!" Patricia then adopted a haughty expression, hoping to scare Asher off. "People should know their place." But Asher remained unmoved as if he hadn't heard a word. Only when the elevator doors opened did he stop, his whole being radiating an incredibly powerful aura. "Do you really know me? Do you know who you're talking to? Don't try to define me with your limited understanding—it's ridiculous! And you think mentioning certain people will make me cower, make me afraid? Foolish! They're nothing but ants to me, easily crushed!" Asher then strode out of the elevator, leaving Patricia speechless. Only after the doors closed did she react, frantically pressing the open button to chase after him. "Arrogant! So arrogant! Who does he think he is, talking like that? I have to get him fired from the company; otherwise, that kind of person will ruin things for Rosalind and me!" Just as Patricia caught up to Asher and was about to reprimand him, a figure approaching from the front caused her expression to change drastically. Gold-rimmed glasses, an elegant and luxurious outfit, a handsome face—an aristocratic aura of extraordinary refinement washed over her. "Mr. Blake, why are you here?" Patricia quickly straightened up, bowing deeply with a subservient expression. The man was Owen Blake, the CEO of Summit Literary Agency and the well-known heir to a powerful family in Elyria City's entertainment industry. "Patricia, I heard Rosalind brought a man back and was intimate with him. Is this true?" Owen had always been Rosalind's passionate pursuer, having signed her to his agency years ago at any cost just for a chance to be with her. So when his subordinate told him Rosalind had brought a man back intimately, he immediately came to demand an explanation. Patricia quickly explained, "Mr. Blake, where did you hear such rumors? You know Rosalind's personality. How could she be interested in another man?" "It had better not be true!" Owen said domineeringly, coldly snorting. "Rosalind is the woman I have set my sights on. In the end, she must belong to me! I absolutely won't allow any other man to touch her, or they'll face the consequences!" Patricia was so intimidated by the menacing words that she cowered, quickly bowing and agreeing. She then glared fiercely at Asher beside her, pulling him aside and whispering in his ear, "Did you hear that? Rosalind is being pursued by Mr. Blake. She's his woman! Do you know how powerful Mr. Blake is in Elyria City? He's not someone you, a nobody, can afford to offend. So if you don't want to die, get lost. Don't get yourself killed and drag Rosalind and me down with you." If the enraged Owen found out that Asher was the man Rosalind brought back, it wouldn't just be Asher facing his wrath; she, as his agent, would also suffer the consequences. "Oh, really?" Asher smiled faintly, looking at Owen without fear as he took a step forward. "I am the man Rosalind brought back, and in the future, I will marry her! You mentioned something about me facing consequences earlier. Bring it on. Let me see how capable you are!" Whoosh! Owen's explosive gaze instantly locked onto Asher, and the temperature around them seemed to drop several degrees. Patricia suddenly reacted, shouting at Asher, "Asher, what the h*ll are you saying? You, of all people, think Rosalind would even take a look at you? Get out of here! The farther, the better!" Patricia forcefully shoved Asher, but he stood like an iron tower, immovable. "If you don't believe me, Mr. Blake, you can ask others at the company; they all saw me." Boom! Patricia's mind felt shaken like an earthquake, her face turning pale as if all the blood had drained from it. 'It's over! Completely over! This d*mn Asher! How dare he provoke someone as powerful as Owen? Is he courting death?' "Good, you have guts," Owen said, his seemingly calm face hiding a storm. He forced himself to remain composed, his voice low and husky. "Before you die, I want to know if this is your wishful thinking or if Rosalind agrees with you." "Of course, it's his wishful thinking! Asher is a good-for-nothing bum. Rosalind could never be interested in him!" Patricia said, grasping at a lifeline. "Shut the f*ck up!" Owen roared, his crimson, contorted face instantly silencing Patricia. Then he glared at Asher, his eyes filled with dark fury. "Think before you speak! I propelled Rosalind to her position as a Hollywood superstar myself. I can make her, and I can break her!" "Not while I'm here," Asher shook his head, narrowing his eyes. "I don't give a d*mn about the elite families in the capital, let alone some small-time player from Elyria City. How dare you talk to me like that? You're out of line!" Patricia was terrified. She thought Asher was courting death. 'Why does he have to drag me and Rosalind down to h*ll with him?' In her mind, she cursed Asher a thousand times. "Asher, I order you to apologize to Mr. Blake immediately to beg for his forgiveness! Otherwise, before Mr. Blake acts, I'll make you pay a terrible price!" Slap! Asher slapped her. "Who are you to order me? You're so annoying!" Patricia was stunned. 'Where the h*ll did Rosalind find such a reckless i***t?' At that moment, the sound of high heels clicking rapidly approached. Then Rosalind's stunning figure appeared. "Rosalind, you're here just in time. Quickly explain to Mr. Blake that Asher's desire to marry you is entirely one-sided; you never agreed," Patricia said, quickly grabbing Rosalind. "Why should I explain anything to Mr. Blake? My relationship with Asher is my private matter. What right does he have to interfere?" Rosalind stood in front of Asher. She'd received a report of the situation while in her office upstairs and rushed down, fearing for her brother's safety. Owen's furious gaze fell on Rosalind. "Rosalind, think carefully! You owe a large part of your success to the resources and money I invested. Are you trying to force me to end our cooperation?" "Suit yourself," Rosalind replied, then turned to Asher with a gentle look. "All I know is, no one will hurt my dear brother."
