Every corner around the City is as clean as the clear blue sky. Little by little every corner starts to be filled with people. Car's is everywhere. All establishments are open. Everything starts to be back to normal. It's a new day to begin a new beginning.
Just like dust in the wind, that virus that kills a lot of people vanishes in the air after five years. You can see smiles on peoples faces but deep inside the wound of losing their loved ones because of that virus is still fresh The wound might be healed but the scar remains that makes everyone remembers everything. It might be hard to start again but life must go on.
"Mom, can I cook this chicken?" said Mazi while looking at the chicken.
Mazi is a five-year-old child who lives in a small house in a small remote village far away from the City.
"Okay sure Mazi. Let's tell your dad to catch and cook it for us," her mom answered smiling.
Mazi's parents love her so much. Though life is so hard in the village, they still manage to give Mazi whatever she asks.
After eating the chicken her dad has cooked, they all look at the dark beautiful sky full of stars from the window of their small house.
"Dad, mom. Why are stars so small?" Mazi asked?
"Because they are too far from us Mazi," her mom answered smiling.
"Mazi, if one of us we'll be gone forever, I want you to look at the beautiful stars and remember that we're just there up above watching and guiding you," his dad answered.
"But dad, you're not a star?"
They all both smiled at each other as the night becomes darker. Mazi and his dad have fallen asleep but her mom keeps looking at Mazi sleeping
.
"Mazi, I hope and wishes that you will grow up with a golden heart even though we're not your real parents," she whispered kissing Mazi on her cheeks.
But midnight comes when Mazi's mom and dad woke up because of Mazi's scream.
"Mazi, what is happening? Why is your appearance like that?" asked her mom feeling scared while looking at Mazi.
Mazi's appearance starts changing into something they can't explain. Her appearance is just like a small beast. A second, later on, she got near his dad and was ready to kill him.
"No, Mazi? Look at my eyes. I'm your dad! Can't you remember me? Can't you remember those times we play hide and seek? Can't you remember that moment when we laugh and eat together?" His dad keeps saying while his tears starts falling.
Mazi look at his dad on the eye and suddenly ,she runs outside and while the moon is so bright up above. She kills all their animals.
"Oh no! She's not human? What to do? She might kill us?" Mazi's mom said while crying.
They are both watching Mazi from the window feeling shocked and scared.
"No, she can't do it! We are her parents so how can she kill us!"
"I'm afraid looking at her. What is happening? I can't understand?" her mom said.
Because of fear they suddenly locked the door and window while Mazi is outside. They waited for Mazi to destroy their door but it seems like Mazi keeps killing their animals.
Morning comes but the two couple keeps looking at the door. They never fall asleep thinking about what is happening. They both stood up as the sun reached the window. They open it slowly and looks around.
Blood is everywhere. Dead chicken and ducks are scattered everywhere. In a corner, they saw Mazi sleeping while her clothes is full of blood.
"Where are you going?" asked the wife as his husband opens the door.
"Let me check on Mazi," the husband answered feeling worried.
"No, she's a monster! A beast! Or whatever! What if she'll gonna kill you?" shouted the wife.
"No! Remember! She's our child. The moment we found her on the road we promised ourselves to love her whoever she is," answered the husband.
The wife never says a thing anymore. She followed his husband though they are both feeling scared.
"Mazi, wake up!" her dad said while touching her daughters face full of blood.
Mazi opens her eyes. She looks everywhere and was shocked to see what happened.
"Dad, what happened? Why am I sleeping here? Why are my clothes full of blood?" she asked screaming because of fear?
"Oh no! My chicken! My ducks! Who kills them?" she asks again as if she knows nothing.
The couple is shocked and is wondering why does Mazi doesn't know anything?
"Mazi, why can't you go with your mom and take a shower," Mazi's dad said.
"Yes, Mazi come here let's take a bath," her mom said smiling while pretending that everything is okay.
As they take a bath. The husband collects the dead chicken and ducks. He digs a hole and put the dead animals on it. He cleans everything while wondering what is happening to their daughter.
Mazi keeps asking but the couple keeps pretending that the animals is been killed by some animals too. And because Mazi is too young, she believes it.
"What to do? I'm already afraid? What if she'll l turn into a beast again and will kill us?" her wife asked while Mazi is playing outside.
His husband sighed.
"Mazi is a child we only get on the road. We don't know who is her real parents. We know nothing about her but I believe that something is wrong! If we abandon her, she might turn into a real beast. She doesn't know that she is turning into a beast. Let's guide her," suggested the husband while looking at Mazi from the window.
"But I'm already afraid! I can't!" shouted the wife.
"You must! Remember your her mom. You shouldn't abandon her. This time she needs you more!"
"But how, how can we protect her? What if one day she will kill us? What if all the villagers will discover that she is not a human. What if they will kill her or us? We can not hide the fact that she's not human."
"We will leave this place. Let's go to the mountain where only three of us will live. Let's live there till she will grow up and understands everything. She has nothing! If we abandon her then she will become a real monster, let's help her. I think there is something wrong with her identity that only her needs to discover."
The wife never answers but just cries. For their child's safety, they give up everything. They climb the mountain and build their new home. It's too hard for them but they need to do it. Inside their new house is a two small bedroom made up of wood. The other one is for the couple and the other is for Mazi.
" I'm sorry my daughter. It hurts us to see you like this but I need to tie you, it's the only way for us to be saved," his dad whispered as he tie Mazi while sleeping.
Every night they need to tie her every time she falls asleep and locks the door. They're hurt to see her like that but it's the only way.
"Mom, Dad, why? I always wake up like this? My hand and feet are tied. I can't understand?" Mazi asks one morning.
"Mazi, always remember that we love you. I want you to stop asking anymore. As you grow up you will going to understand everything happening today.
Since then Mazi start to face her life in the mountain without a playmate. She often plays with the animals or will climb the trees. Once a month her mom will get down from the mountain to sell the vegetables they planted on the mountain in exchange for food and rice.
It's lonely sometimes living in the woods without any human you will see beside them but little by little as Mazi keeps growing and reach her sixteenth birthday, she starts asking and wondering again why. Why are they living in the woods all by themself, without light, without electricity? Without other human. Why can't she go to school too like other humans can do? Why is it, that his dad and her mom is her teacher who taught her everything? Why do they need to hide?
One day while she is picking guava near their small house. She heard a boy's scream.
" Help me please!"
She gets the knife from her bag and holds it tightly while she keeps looking all around to see who is screaming.
And besides a Narra tree, she found a boy sitting while holding his feet that seems like he was bitten by something. It was her first time in a long time to meet again another person. She looks at him in the eye while her knife is still in her hand.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Please put your knife down. I'm not a bad person can you please help me? I was bitten by a snake. Please!" pleaded the boy.
The boy keeps sweating and seems like he's already in pain. She put down her knife and got near the boy to check on her wound. Suddenly she cut some of her t-shirts and tie them above the knee to stop the poison of the snake from spreading then suddenly she suck it to remove the poison.
A second later on a bunch of human shouting can be heard that seems like they are looking for the boy.
"Gross, where are you? Gross! Gross!"
"Mom!" shouted the boy though his in pain.
"Oh my God! My son!" an old lady said feeling worried as they found the boy.
Mazi stood up after she finishes what she is doing.
"Wait, thank you so much," the boy said looking at Mazi while smiling.
Mazi never answers, she just smiled and turns around. But as she walk away the old woman followed her.
"Wait, please get this. It's the only thing I have now. Thank you very much for saving my son," she said while giving money to Mazi.
Mazi nodded.
"Please get that back. In this woods I can't use that. Please take care on your way home," she answered while smiling and start walking again, leaving the old woman.
She starts singing a sad song as she walks home. But then as she reached her home, she is shocked to see her parents laying on the floor full of blood. Tears start falling from her eyes.
"No, mom, dad, please wake up! You can't leave me like this please!" she keeps shouting.
