The Scorned

535 Words
Jessa had always known she would be Luna. It was written in the way Seth looked at her during training, in the way the elders whispered when she passed, in the way her parents bowed and said, “You were born for this.” She was strong. Disciplined. Shadowfang born. A perfect mate for a future Alpha. Except… Seth never chose her. He chose the rogue. ⸻ The Beginning of the End Jessa stood alone in the eastern corridor of the packhouse, eyes burning as she watched Seth walk through the training yard, MaLeeka at his side. Their fingers brushed. Their wolves were tethered. The bond was obvious. The bond that should’ve been hers. That was supposed to be me, she thought. That was my future. My bloodline. My right. Instead, Seth looked at MaLeeka like she was fire and salvation. Jessa had once killed for Seth. Now… she wondered what she might kill because of him. ⸻ The Past They Shared It hadn’t been nothing. She and Seth had grown up training side by side. He used to patch her wounds. Hold her after patrols. There was a time — brief and secret — when he’d kissed her in the woods, fingers tangled in her hair, promise blooming between their lips. But after Kael’s death, everything changed. Seth became harder. Distant. Unreachable. Jessa waited. Stayed loyal. Turned away every other suitor. And then the rogue came. The one with wild eyes and power she didn’t earn. The one who didn’t even want to be Luna. And Seth—he gave it to her. Just like that. ⸻ The Moment It Broke Jessa sat in the war tent days after Aurelius had been banished. She was patching bandages, silent and stiff, when a young scout came in, eyes wide. “They’re holding a ceremony,” he whispered. “To name MaLeeka as Queen Luna.” Jessa froze. She didn’t cry. She stood. She walked. She left the packhouse and didn’t return for three days. ⸻ The Forbidden Alliance Deep in the Whisper Vale — where no Shadowfang wolf dared walk — Jessa lit a fire and waited. She wore her old uniform. She carved her name into the bark of a sacred tree. She bled into the dirt as an offering. And something answered. From the mist emerged a wolf with empty eyes and black veins. A remnant of the Firstborn’s corrupted pack. A creature Seth thought they’d already destroyed. “You want her gone,” it rasped. “We do, too.” Jessa didn’t hesitate. “I’ll help you bring her down,” she said. “I’ll do what he couldn’t.” ⸻ The Vow Under the hollow moon, Jessa took a blade to her palm and swore an oath. “I was born for the title she stole. I was meant to stand beside him—not some cursed rogue with witchfire in her veins. I won’t stop until she bleeds. Until he sees me again.” ⸻ Far away, MaLeeka stirred in her sleep. Something in her chest twisted. And the bond between her and Seth flared cold for a heartbeat. A whisper, carried on wind: “You don’t deserve him.”
