AFTER BOB HAD SEEN JESSICA, and she’d brought him up to date, he went to the library where he knew there was a copy of the Encyclopedia Britannica and a slew of cookery books. He needed to research turtle soup and turtles. He already knew that there were turtles in the Indian Ocean and that turtle soup had been popular in the time of Queen Victoria, but he didn’t know whether you could use any kind of turtle or how to make the soup.
He found out that the turtle soup that graced (some might say, disgraced) the dinner tables of the nineteenth century was made exclusively from the great, green sea turtle, the Chelonia Mydas. Apparently, the turtle itself was not green. It was its fat that was green. Didn’t sound too appetizing to Bob, but then some people didn’t like eating oyst
