3 A Visitor in the Night THE FAMILY HAD A DISTURBED NIGHT. The dogs barked and howled on and off for hours. They would settle down for a while and then one would start them all off again. At first Bob put their unease down to their familiarizing themselves with their new wolf den and working out their hierarchy in the pack. Round about midnight their anxiety and excitement escalated. They charged from one end of the verandah to the other, their claws scraping and clattering on the wooden planks.
