Forgiveness

The door opens as I watch, as if it is moving in slow motion. He walks towards me and immediately falls to his knees. Maxwell spreads his hands over his thighs and hangs his head over his slumped shoulders and stays still as stone. "If you desire, you may hear him out and listen to his explanation. If you wish him dead, he is ready to die today". I stand there, stunned in silence. How can I possibly not hear him out after that? Someone gave their lives so easily to me because they'd rather die than be misunderstood. It doesn't take my disgust away for a second, but it does allow the human inside me to give him a chance. "Look at me Maxwell". I speak bravely, he moves his head just enough so he can look me in the eye over his eyelashes. I felt a sense of guilt rush over me as I understood just how much he was hurt, but I was offended by him and violated, but it still makes me feel bad for him. "Tell me why you kept forcing me, Max? Why did you keep kissing me and burning me when I did not want that at all? Also, why burn me?". I waited for him to talk, and he bowed his head again. "I did not want to kiss you to attain any affection, I wanted you to feel the affection when it is with a wolf. I just did not want yet another human to die loving a wolf. To love an alpha as a human is extremely painful. My mother could not survive the agony my father put her through and alpha is kind, but he is way too powerful for a human. It was wrong of me to force you, but I would never have taken it that far if I had been aware of your thoughts". He finishes talking, and I understand where he is coming from, but it still makes me feel uneasy to talk to him just yet. "Go Maxwell, let her think it over". Maxwell immediately stands and leaves the house. I receive a little nod from Cain and that reveals that I must've told him subconsciously again. "Can he be trusted?". I asked as anxiety got the best of me. "You are not worried about how dangerous he made me look in front of you, yet you are asking me about a harmless kid who is clearly troubled?". "Troubled or not, I don't care. I am not ready to speak to him yet and you will help his case". I continued inching closer towards him. "As far as you go, I am not in the least worried about you". He licks his lips and gulps as I stand a mere inch away from his face. "Are you sure Lara?". "Yes I am-". Before I could finish my sentence, he slid at me in a fluid motion, and we went sprinting towards the window. He throws me in the air like I weigh nothing and shifts as I scream at the top of my lungs midair. He aligned himself so that I landed right on the 10-foot wolf right beneath me, instinctively I gripped onto the fur below his throat and pushed my legs on either side of him. He speeds through the trail and takes a path straight into the woods, avoiding all the trees and rocks as he jumps, leaps and runs past the forest. We flew past hundreds of trees within seconds, his speed unmatched than any car I have ever been in, unwavering. He slows down by a cliff and comes to a halt right where the cliff ended, with us a single step away from falling right into the sea beneath us, with waves crashing as they turned aggressive each second, pushing against each other and crashing into the rocks beneath, slowly chipping away at them. I gulped down the building knot that formed at the base of my throat just imagining the fall. "Still sure?". He speaks in my head. "Yes, this was nothing". I stand my ground. "Don't be stubborn, I am more stubborn, and I can hear your heart beating like crazy". "Your device is not working, I'm fine". I tremble right as I finish that sentence, surely he will back down. Wont he? "Your call". He flexed his hind legs ready to pounce like a cat and I screamed at the top of my lungs. "Are you f*****g crazy!?". "Are you trying to kill me?". I shrieked. He shrugged me off him and I fell on my ass on the hard stone cliff. He goes to the far corner and leaps in my direction. I close my eyes thinking he may bump into me, but I feel his breath right as he smiles and scoffs at my expression. "You are unbelievable Lara, truly a different breed". He lets out a big laugh, making it echo among the forests and flops onto his back, laughing at my ridiculous act of bravery. His eyes wrinkled from his wide smile, his teeth slightly crooked and extremely edgy at their sides, his hand in my lap as he held his belly with the other. I stare at him as my breathing turns shallow, and I watch how quickly my body betrayed me. He finally calms down and looks at me with his stupid gorgeous smile. "Are you okay there?". He smirks. "Fine". It is all that leaves my lips as I sit in silence trying to calm my nerves and not jump him right there and then. His hair was a tousled mess flowing in all directions as he suddenly saw right through me and his eyes widened. "What?". He asked me. "What? I repeated innocently, maybe I did want him to listen to my thoughts. "I am taking you back, let's go". He continued, his tone rather serious and dull, back to the way it was. Filled with boring intentions, no more hearty teasing or lively laughing Cain for me, I guess.
