I recall my mother cuddling me, her soft hands caressing my hair and her beautiful smiles. All the love she holds for me, all the love anyone has ever felt for me, comes rushing through my veins as I dangle in a man's arm. Truth be told, I wanted to die as I recalled all my beautiful memories, but from this distance and in this situation, all I can think of is how f****d I am right now. I want to continue thinking of my mother or Maddy or even my ex-husband, but, all I can think of is the horrifying look in his eyes as his mouth salivates at the sight of me losing my soul. Is this his first time? Probably not, he is too calm and way too excited for me to be his first.
"Well, now don't kill her Rob, she'll be too cold to drink then". Their conversation seems so animated, as if I am in a horrible nightmare. At least I am not dying? Or am I dying after they eat me?
"I want her to beg". He exclaims and throws me to the other side of the alley. Like a flimsy doll. My body crashes into the concrete and I fall onto the floor.
"Ask nicely asshole". The words leave my mouth before I can stop them.
"What did you just call me human?". He hisses and leaps towards me. His hands were around my neck again, gripping me with all his strength, and I could still feel him holding back. I knew he wasn't human but a wolf, here to kill me.
"Why me". I choke out.
"Because you smell divine human, your scent is like I have never smelled before. Enough to make any vampire crazy".
Now wait a second, vampire? When the hell was Cain going to tell me vampires are here too!? Just then I noticed how icy cold his hands were, the dark blood-red hue in his eyes and the obvious hunger for my blood. He tilts my head to the side and gently removes my hair to expose my neck. His strength was unmatched. I tried to hit him while he worked so elegantly, but to no avail. He bared his teeth at me and sank them sharply into my neck. My screams echoed in the alley as a racing figure hauled the vampire from me, making my body fall to the ground. Excruciating pain made me violently shake on the ground. It was worse than the burn Maxwell put me through. It was like a different burn completely. It was not hurting me but stealing me. My soul felt weakened, as if my soul could not harmonize with my body anymore. My memories were fading. I tried to recall my mother again, but I forgot what she even looked like. Everything was hazy around me, Cain tossing their limbs into the fire, Maxwell tearing one person's head off as he tossed it into the fire, both of them running towards me as Maxwell rose into a human again. They called out my name, but I could not respond.
"You have to alpha!". Cried Maxwell, unsure of what he had said in response.
He bared his much larger fangs and bit me in the same place the vampire did. His bite was soft, a warm sensation flowed through my body. The pain became bearable as he sucked more and more blood from me. I felt as if I could feel my body again. My hand went up to wipe the blood dripping from his mouth as he spat it out on the pavement.
"You will be fine, Lara. I will not let anything happen to you ever". His voice was so low I could barely hear him. He pressed his forehead against mine and carried me back to the house. I could move my muscles again and my memories became clearer.
"How could this happen, alpha". Maxwell seethed.
"I should never have trusted her to take care of herself for once. It is all my fault and I shall take responsibility". His voice radiated sadness as he seated me in a car. The luxurious leather against my skin made it apparent it was not your average car. Too tired to ask specifics, I dropped my head into his lap and shut my eyes, exhausted from all the drama.
"Sleep now Lara". He whispered in my head and I drifted to a well-deserved sleep.
