Chapter 3

Scarlet I had heard stories. Stories about King Elian Hemshine. And none was good. He was mad. Comepletely mad. No one went close to him. Elian had lost his mate in the cold war, over ten years ago, and since then, had purchased whores from different packs and kingdoms. No one ever made it out alive. He was going to kill me. My eyes burned as I looked at Zeke. I hated him as much as I knew he hated me, but I never thought he could be this cruel. “Y_you can’t do this, Zeke! He’ll kill me_ My father_” “Your father signed you off to me, Scarlet. That old bastard knows just how much he owes me, and what it would cost him if he tried to interfere. And you lost the priviledge to live after you killed our daughter out of carelessness, and tried to kill the woman I love!” he roared, coming to stand before me in the blink of an eye. “Be happy I didn’t have you beheaded for treason. This is the only way you can pay me back, so you better make it count!” I gasped, the pain inside of me intensifying. Never once had he come to see our daughter after she was born, yet he called me a murderer. I had begged to be taken to the hospital, but no one had lent me a listening ear until I had had to take matters into my own hands. As for his new mate, she had attacked me that night, and in my rage, I had retaliated. The scar on my stomach was a reminder of when_ The agony from that night hit me hard, and the cold reality of the present hit harder. “Zeke_” “The Hemshine entourage should be here any minute now. Behave! or you will see your ftaher and his pack crumble to pieces, then I will have to kill you with my bare hands!” I opened my mouth to plead with him, but I was met with the wicket glint in his eyes that told me I was just wasting my time. Just then, Cade, who I hadn’t noticed when he left earlier, walked in, a hard look on his face. “Alpha, I just got off the phone with the representatives of Hemshine. Due to some reasons, the alpha won’t be coming. Instead, has sent his beta, and he would be here in five minutes.” Zeke looked like he wanted to explode, while I stood there, defeated. I screamed as he wrapped his hands around my throat, pinning me to the wall. “All you do is bring badluck you w***e! I swear by the moon, if things go wrong....” he didn’t need to finish his sentense as his eyes which had turned blue, blazed. “They have crossed the gate, alpha.” Cade cut in, causing Zeke to realease me. I dropped to the ground, a choking mess, as I tried to catch my breath. For a moment I thought I saw Cade look at me with pity, but it was gone and replaced by his usual hard look. “Clean her up, and bring her to the main office in five.” Zeke spat, and walked away, leaving me alone with Cade. As soon as the door closed, I scrambled to my feet, dropping a Cade’s feet. “Please. Just let me go. You could tell him I escaped, hit you_anything! He will kill me_” “This is your best shot at any kind of life, Scarlet. So accept it.” his tone was rough as he pulled me to my feet. I frowned slightly when his warm fingers grazed the bare skin of my arm. As if realising it too, he pulled away, gripping me by my shoulder instead. “They are waiting.” “Cade_” “Move, luna. We have less than a minute.” I bit my lips, then nodded my head and willed my legs to move. What was I thinking? Cade had always been loyal to his alpha, and would forever remain so. I could as well be talking to a wall. The air when I stepped into the main office was stiff and cold. A chill worked it’s way up my spine as I took in the two figures in the room. Zeke, and another man, who I immediately knew was the beta of Hemshine. As much as we tried to ignore it, lycan’s carried a certain aura different from us werewolves. The man standing a whole inch taller than Zeke, could as well be the king because his presence was felt. “We should be on our way now.” the man said, his baritone rich and smooth. He nodded at Zeke, then turned to me. I almost did a double take as I was met with the deepest sea blue eyes I had ever seen. He was wickedly handsome, with lips that had no business on a man as dangerous as I knew he was. I lowered my gaze, frowning as I focused them on my fingers. Handsome or not, I was going to die. I gave Zeke one last hard look as Cade led me forward, toward the door. “You better behave, Scarlet.” he mouthed, a sinister smile on his lip. I fought hard for the tears burning behind my eyes not to fall. “I’ll take it from here.” that smooth baritone said again, but so close this time, that I gasped when I realised he was not standing in front of me. A hand reached out and clasped around my bare am, causing a warm shiver to course through me. I wasn’t sure what was said next as my brain was completely foggy. It wasn’t until a car door slammed shut, that I realised I had been placed in a car. I blinked, my eyes landing on a lone figure on the other end of the seat. His hair was dark, and so long he had it tied in a ponytail that disappeared into his coat. He had a face carved by the moon goddess herself, and lips crazily similar to the man who was now sliding into the driver’s seat of the vehicle. I frowned, goosebumps scattering across my skin as I continued to take in his form. He had his attention on his tablet, and behaved like I didn’t exist, which gave me enough time to look at him. His skin_ “I believe there is no need to undress me as you will see all of me, when you start your w***e duties.” It wasn’t the words that shocked me, or the sexy baritone. It was the face, as he turned and faced me completely. What in the_
