CHAPTER 3 WEREWOLF INVASION

1772 Words
CHLOE POV After my memorable experience in the hospital for six months. Silverwood was invaded. I had been away from Silverwood for some weeks on a special investigation in the neighboring town when I heard the sad news in the early hour of the fourth day of the third week I left Silverwood. On that fateful day, I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. It was Lily. I picked it up. "Hey, what's up?" I asked. "Chloe, you have to come back to Silverwood. It's overrun," Lily said, her voice trembling. "What do you mean, overrun?" "Werewolves. They've taken over the town. They're everywhere. People are being attacked. We need you here, Chloe. You're the only one who can help us." I felt a shiver run down my spine. Werewolves Invade Silverwood? How was that even possible? I had to go back and investigate. I packed a few things and left for Silverwood. The town had changed since a few weeks I was away. The streets were deserted, and the houses were boarded up. The sky was overcast, and the air was heavy with the smell of fear. I found Lily waiting for me on my arrival. She looked tired and scared. We hugged, and I could feel her trembling in my arms. "Let's go to Dad's house," she said. We drove in silence to my father's house on the outskirts of town. The house was a sprawling mansion surrounded by acres of land. It was the same house I grew up in, before I left him after his separation from my mother to be with her, but it looked different now. The windows were boarded up, and the doors were reinforced with steel. I left my dad's house after my mother divorced him because of his constant abuse and bashing. My mother had to leave to save her life and I had to leave with her. And I was not in talking terms with him for years until recently when my mother died. Dad was waiting for us in the living room. He was dressed in a suit and tie, even though it was the middle of the day. He looked older than I remembered, and his eyes were cold and distant. "Chloe, you shouldn't have come back," he said. "What do you mean, Dad? Werewolves have taken over the town. People are being attacked. We have to do something," I said. Dad sighed. "I was hoping you wouldn't find out. Yes, there are werewolves in Silverwood, but they're not just any werewolves. They're led by Ethan Pierce." My heart skipped a beat. Ethan Pierce. The name sent a chill down my spine. He was the last person I wanted to see. "What does Ethan want?" I asked. "He wants revenge for what happened to his brother," Dad said. "What happened to him?" I asked. "He had an accident, and he was taken to the hospital. The doctor and the nurses tried their best, but unfortunately they couldn't save his life. He died. He thought he was killed. "Why didn't he understand, why would the doctor or the nurses want to kill him ?" I asked, feeling confused. "I didn't want you to be involved in this," Dad said. "But you couldn't. Look at what's happened," I said, gesturing to the boarded-up windows. "We have to find a way to stop him, Chloe. We have to put an end to this," Lily said, her voice shaking. "I know," I said." Suddenly, we heard a loud bang on the front door. We froze. Dad motioned for us to be quiet and followed him to the basement. We went down the stairs, and Dad closed the door behind us. "What's going on?" I asked. "They've found us. We have to be quiet," Dad said, handing us each a flashlight. We huddled in the corner of the basement, waiting for the sound of footsteps to pass. The minutes felt like hours. My heart was pounding in my chest, and I could hear Lily's breathing next to me. Finally, the sound of footsteps faded away, and we let out a collective sigh of relief. I looked around the dark and damp basement, searching for any sign of a way out. The only light came from a small crack in the ceiling, where the moon shone through. We found ourselves trapped in Ethan's hideout. "What are we going to do now?" Lily whispered, fear evident in her voice. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts. "We have to find a way out of here and get back to town. We can't let them hurt anyone else." "But how are we going to get out of here?" Lily asked, looking around the dimly lit space. I racked my brain, trying to come up with a plan. "Ethan's pack won't be back for a while. We could try to sneak out while they're gone." "But what about Ethan?" Lily asked, her voice barely above a whisper. I gritted my teeth. "We'll deal with him when the time comes. Right now, we need to focus on getting out of here." We slowly made our way toward the stairs, trying to be as quiet as possible. I held my breath as we climbed the stairs, praying that no one would hear us. As we reached the top of the stairs, the door suddenly swung open, and we were face to face with Ethan. "Well, well, well, what do we have here?" Ethan sneered, his eyes glinting in the dim light. I stepped forward, trying to keep my voice steady. "Let us go, Ethan. We don't want any trouble." Ethan laughed, his voice echoing in the small room. "Oh, I think you're in a bit of trouble already, Chloe. You and your little sister shouldn't have meddled in our affairs." My heart sank as Ethan's words sank in. We were in deep trouble, and I didn't know how we were going to get out of it. Suddenly, there was a loud crash from outside, and Ethan's face twisted in rage. "What the hell is going on out there?" Ethan snarled, pushing past us to observe. Lily and I exchanged a quick glance before making a run for it. We burst through the front door, only to be met with chaos. The town was overrun with werewolves, their eyes glowing in the moonlight as they ran wild through the streets. People were screaming and running in every direction, and I knew that we had to get out of there before it was too late. Lily and I sprinted towards the forest, our hearts pounding in our chests as we ran for our lives. We had no idea where we were going, but we knew that we couldn't stay in town. As we ran deeper into the forest, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being followed. I could hear the crunch of leaves and twigs underfoot, and my senses were on high alert. "Lily, keep running!" I shouted, my voice cracking with fear. Suddenly, a figure stepped out from behind a tree, blocking our path. It was Richard Chen, my father. "Chloe, Lily, what are you doing out here?" Richard asked, his voice low and steady. "We have to get out of town, Dad. It's not safe here," I said, panting for breath. Richard nodded, his face serious. "I know. Come with me. I have a safe place for us to hide." We followed my father deeper into the forest, our hearts still racing with fear. I didn't know what was going to happen next, but I knew that we were in for a long and dangerous journey. My father led us through the forest, his pace steady and sure. The trees loomed above us like silent sentinels, their branches creaking in the wind. I kept glancing back, half-expecting to see Ethan and his pack closing in on us. Suddenly, my father stopped, his hand held up in warning. We froze, our breaths held in our throats. The forest was silent, except for the rustling of leaves in the wind. My father gestured for us to stay put as he crept forward, his footsteps silent on the forest floor. We watched him disappear into the shadows, our hearts pounding with fear. Minutes ticked by, each one feeling like an eternity. Finally, my father returned, his face grim. "We have to keep moving," he said, his voice low. "There's a clearing up ahead where we can rest for a while." We followed him through the trees, our senses on high alert. As we neared the clearing, we heard the sound of voices. My heart sank as I recognized the rough, guttural tones of Ethan and his pack. "We have to go back," Lily whispered urgently. "They'll kill us if they find us." But my father shook his head. "We have no choice but to go forward," he said. "We have to get to safety." With a sinking feeling, I realized that he was right. We had no other option but to press on. As we emerged into the clearing, we saw Ethan and his pack standing in a circle, their heads bowed in concentration. "What are they doing?" Lily whispered, her voice trembling. I had no answer, but I knew that whatever it was, it couldn't be good. We huddled in the shadows, watching as Ethan and his pack performed some kind of ceremony. The air crackled with energy, and I felt a sense of foreboding wash over me. Suddenly, one of Ethan's pack members looked up, his eyes meeting mine. I gasped, my heart racing as I realized that we had been spotted. Ethan bared his teeth, a low growl rumbling in his chest. "We have to go!" my father shouted, grabbing my arm and pulling me towards the safety of the trees. We ran as fast as we could, our footsteps pounding in the dirt. Behind us, we could hear the sound of Ethan and his pack giving chase. We ducked and weaved through the trees, our hearts pounding with fear. Just when I thought we were safe, I felt a sharp pain in my leg. I stumbled, my father, catching me before I fell. "They got you!" he shouted, his face contorted with anger. I looked down, realizing with horror that one of Ethan's pack members had bitten me. The pain was excruciating, a burning sensation spreading through my veins. "We have to keep moving," my father said urgently. "We have to find a way to cure you before it's too late."
