Valentina's POV The oaky scent of rain enveloped me as the truck’s tyres splashed some mud everywhere. The truck screeched into potholes, causing a gallop and jerking all six of us from our seats. My scattered hair flew out the window, and the cold night breeze left me shivering. The smell of cigarettes filled the truck, and I laid back on the seat with a deep sigh. “¿Cuánto falta?” I heard my father's husky voice. “We are almost there, boss!” Ricardo responded. I moved my head in rhythm to the jamming sound blasting from the radio. Ricardo and the boys hummed against the engine's growl as we continued our journey towards the border. We finally arrived at the border, and the birds chipping was the only sound that filled the air. I pushed the truck door open and jumped down. My black boot screeched against the ground as I walked over to the front of the truck with a gun in my hand. With my hands dipped into the pocket of black leather jacket, and my legs crossed over each other. I was more than ready for the next order. “There they come!” Ricardo observed, the sound of his mouth echoing in my ear. “Stop chewing the freaking gum.” I nudged him with my elbow. “I can't help it, my lady. It helps reduce tension. You should try it.” He advised, and I rolled my eyes. I looked forward, and the car light shone on us all. My pupils dilated, and I quickly wore my face cap and hissed. How irritating. We all assembled the minute Gustavo and his men alighted from their truck. I stayed in front with Ricardo beside me. I made sure to clamp my fist tightly around my gun. “You look beautiful as always, Valentina!” Gustova chuckled loudly, and I snorted. “Get to the point, Gustova, where's the money?” I countered. “Always so serious…. Anyway, where's your father? As long as he's still alive, he will be the one I will be talking to.” Gustova furrowed his brow, and I just glared at him in silence. “Papa!” I called, and my father marched down from the truck. “Gustavo..” My father called and walked towards him. “Aah…" There you are, I thought you were leaving at the mercy of your daughter. Now that you are here, let's get this over with.” Gustova said with a smug on his face. I really don't like him. I thought in my head. He gives me an irk, I have no idea why father insists on working with such a sly. “Where's the money, Gustova?” My father asked, pausing in between his words. “Don't play with me, old man. You know how this works, you hand over the guns, and I hand over the money. We've worked together a few times, you know this already.” Gustova noted. “I have a truck filled with guns, Gustova. Hand the money over, and then we can talk.” My father interjected, and he heaved a deep sigh “Fine!” Gustova agreed and snapped his finger. One of his men alighted from the car with a briefcase. I frowned and immediately felt restless. Something seems fishy here, but I can't place it. Gustova is not the type to give in easily like that. Besides…. “Where are your men, Gustova? How come you only have him with you? He's not even your right-hand man.” I stated, and I watched his face drop. He gave me a hard glare, and I raised my chin up, not backing down. He suddenly smiled and clicked his tongue. He nodded his head and moved closer to me. “Why are you worried about my men, beautiful. It's none of your business. Get your money and get the f**k out of here.” He said and I clenched my fist in anger. “Don't you dare…” I marched up to him, our face and nose rubbing each other's. I gritted in anger and pulled out my gun. “Let it go, Valentina. Ricardo, is the money complete?” My father asked. “Yes boss,” Ricardo responded. “Good! Get your freaking guns out of my truck.” My father chimed in and I turned around. I can't stand his face. I should sit in the car, or I might be forced to shoot him. All of a sudden, my ears turned red and my heart stopped beating. BANG! BANG!! BANG!!! I heard gunshots and turned around only to find my father on the floor. “Papa!” I yelled and ran towards him. “Papa! Gustova!” My eyes stung with tears as I stepped into the pool of blood flowing on the floor. I dropped on the floor and shook my father. “Why are you doing this!!” I screamed my lungs out as hot tears streamed down my cheek. My eyes fell on Gustova and I shut my eyes seeing the bloody hole on his forehead. “You should not be arguing with me like this, Princess. Look around, you are the only one left.” Gustova laughed mockingly and I felt my blood boil. I jerked up and with a loud thud, I sent him floating in the air with a kick. I brought out my gun and c****d it. I fired at him, but he was already on his feet. Suddenly, men began trooping in from every corner with a gun pointed at me. “Your father has ruled this game for far too long. It's high time someone else takes over.” Gustova spilled out. “So you had to kill him!” I yelled my breath heavy. “It was the only way. I didn't have any other choice. If I had played fair and square. I would never have worn. You would have done the same thing.” He continued talking without feeling any remorse. I felt rage build up in me and without thinking. I fired my gun, killing one of the men. The others came for me, and I felt a punch to my stomach, another one to my face. I fell flat on the floor, bleeding. I struggled to gear my head up, but I was met with a violent kick to my head. “How dare you kill one of my men!! Don't you have any fear?” Gustavos's face twisted. “You coward! You are going to pay for the. You won't go unpunished, you bastard.” I vowed and Gustova bursted into laughter. “That's rich coming from you. What makes you think you will live to make me pay? Get me a gun…” His demeanour suddenly changed as he grew serious. “Say your last prayers girl..” He pointed the gun at me, and I shut my eyes making sure not to cower. BANG! My body vibrated but to my surprise I could still see, feel and hear things. I looked up trembling and to my surprise, Gustova was on the floor dead and there was another man standing to his left. “Who are you?” My voice trembled.
