Nicos's POV
“Who are you?” Her voice rang in my ears. She struggled to stand up, but she was too weak. I exhaled sharply and made my way to her. She crawled back shaking and bleeding.
Bullets and men were flying in the air as my men trooped in from every angle.
“Boss!” I heard one of Gustova's men shout and ran towards him.
“How dare you?” He came at me, but there were already bullets in his chest before he could say another word.
In less than five minutes, six of Gustova’s men were already on the ground lifeless, some were injured, while I could see some of them fleeing already.
“You might want to drop your weapons. He's dead and trust me when I say you don't want to mess with me or my men.” My voice thundered through the atmosphere, and silence dominated the air.
I watched as they all dropped their guns and went on their knees.
My eyes scanned the bloody ground, and I caught sight of Don Julio on the ground as well as his men.
I walked closer to him and placed my palm on his neck to check his pulse.
“f**k!” I cursed as I felt his lifeless body.
“Papa!” I heard her distressed voice and felt a pinch in my heart.
“He's dead!” I broke it to her even though she already knows.
“No! No!!” Her voice cracked into tears and I was forced to look away. She crawled up to her father and I could see her struggling with the pain.
“We have to leave now. Gustova has more men, and now that he's dead. They will come for us. We are not safe out here.” I pointed out, but she didn't seem to hear me.
“Hey!” I dragged her up.
“Didn't you hear me? We have to leave now or they will be back with more men.” I tried to speak calmly, but she was really testing my patience.
“I don't care!” She glared at me with her eyes filled with tears.
“So you would rather just die! I know and have heard a lot about Don Julio's daughter and I don't think one of them is being unreasonable.” I gripped her by the shoulder.
“If you die as well. How will you avenge your father's death?” I shook her and I watched her tears rolled down her eyes.
She looked back at her father's corpse and all of a sudden, she collapsed and I quickly caught her.
“Get the car ready! We have to leave now! And the truck, find the keys and bring it along. I'm sure it's with this one.” I yelled pointing to Ricardo, and all the men I brought assembled themselves and one of them started the car. I scooped Valentina into my arms and carried her into the car.
Immediately I hopped in, the car sped off with the truck following and we arrived at my villa in no time.
“Nico!” I heard Martha's voice running towards me. She seems to have been waiting for my return.
“Martha, please prepare a room right now.” I instructed the old woman as I carried Valentina into the house.
I made my way to my room and placed her gently on the bed.
“Call the doctor, she's wounded and weak.” I ordered and everyone began running around.
“Why have you brought her here?” Martha asked me.
“This is the only place she can be safe for now, Martha.” I replied.
“She will bring you nothing but troubles, and I don't want that for you. She's Don Julio’s daughter.” Martha complained.
“There were ambushed Martha and her father is dead. I'm sure their territory will be invaded and that's dangerous for her.” I explained to Martha who only shook her head.
“I will get her a dress she can change into and have the maids prepare something to eat. In case she wakes up.” Martha said and I smiled.
“Thank you Martha!” I appreciated her as she walked out of the room. She has been my nanny since I was a baby, and has taken care of me ever since.
“What is it to you if she's dead and forgotten? You drove all the way to the border and put us through that much danger just to save a girl?” I heard Antonio's voice and I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me he's angry.
“I went there for Don Julio and you know that too well. Don't be sarcastic!” I snorted.
“Too bad I got there late. That fool wouldn't tell me anything tangible. Good thing you captured his mother.” I chuckled.
“Well the Don is dead now. What will you do with her?” He asked me, and I stood there dumbfounded for a while. I stared at her bloody face with a smile.
“I'm going to protect her.” I confessed, and Antonio's eyes widened with shock.
“What the f**k is that supposed to mean? The plan was to get on the good side of the Don. He's dead now, all of these are just pointless.” Antonio complained.
“No it's not Antonio. She's Don Julio’s daughter anyway.” I said.
“Yes, but what will you do with her?” He countered.
I took in a deep breath, and let out a long exhale. And withmy eyes still placed on her, I confessed, “I'm going to use her.”
