Valentina's POV
“Does that matter?” He asked me and I scoffed.
“You, Gustova and my father operate in different territory. Even though my father was the Don of the city, you don't owe him any loyalty. How do I even trust you? What if you are working together with Gustova?” I asked him with glaring eyes and he chuckled.
“You saw me kill the man. You think I would have done that if I was working with him. I just declared war against Gustavos's clan by killing their leader!” He began to say and theh stood up.
“You think I went through all those trouble, putting myself and my men at risk despite working with him? Bringing you here alone is a great threat, don't even get me started with you.” Nico groaned and I slammed my fist on the bed.
“Why then did you do it? You must certainly have something you want, what is it?” I asked him and he walked up to me and grabbed my shoulders.
“Because I need you..” He spat out and my eyes widened in shock.
“Need me? How is that even possible?” I asked him and he shook his head.
“What is it?” I asked him.
“I have a mole in my network. The person has been licking and spilling out my secrets. I don't know which one of them it is.” He explained and I frowned.
“So what should I do about that? It's not like I can afford to do anything for you.” I said and he smirked.
“Your father is the Don of the city. You will now have access to his money, power and network now that he's no more. What if you become the new Don of the city?” He asked me and flashed me a smile.
I scoffed. “I do not care for title or status, I just want to take back my cartel and lead my gang. I was not able to protect them or my father.” I felt a sharp pain in my heart as I spoke.
“I allowed them to die, I have to protect the rest of them, especially now that they don't have anyone leading them. The city is vulnerable at this time…. My mother!” I gasped as I remembered her.
“This is why you need to make this deal with me. I will give you my men, and you will take over your cartel. Just let me in, so I can help you and help myself.” Nico said and I frowned.
“No! I'm not striking any stupid deal with you. I don't trust you.” I shook my head and turned my face away from him.
“Boss… You might want to check the news.” Antonio, Nico's best friend came into the room and said. He only called him by my name whenever they were alone.
They have been best of friends since they were children, hence the reason why they are so close. And why he's very protective of Nico.
“Hmmm…” Nico nodded my head and Antonio walked into the room. He turned the TV on and the video of the burning house was on the screen.
“It is such a pity that we lost Don Julio and…”
I heard my father's name from the TV, and jerked up. My face fell, but I couldn't bring myself to cry. I also looked and I saw my mother crying in the house.
She was spotted on the top roof and a picture of her was taken. She must have been crying. I sighed deeply, I can only imagine the terrible scenery that must be going on in my house.
The whole place was filled with reporters. My mother and the staff were crying their eyes out. And the men, enraged and plotting the next move.
We have also lost Valentina Julio. Her body is yet to be found. But traces of her blood were found.
“What! I'm not dead…” I stood up from the bed.
“But everyone thinks you are! And I think it's best to keep it that way. That way you will strike, when they were not even expecting it.” He explained and I nodded my head. What he said made a lot of sense, but I just can't.
“Come on Valentina, what do you have to lose. You can use my men as much as you want, and then I help you with taking the city for your father.” He explained.
“I also have captains all over the country. I can talk to them as well. With a freaking army, you can do anything.” He sounded so convincing.
“Are you sure what you want is exactly what you mentioned with nothing else. If I find out later in the future, I'm going to cause a ruckus and have your men kill you themselves.” I said and he went silent for a while.
There was a thick and awkward and silence in the air. He stood up from the chair and paced around the room. He rubbed his finger through his hair and I knew for a fact that something was up.
He turned around, walked up to me and brought his face to mine. My eyelashes fluttered as his nose brush through mine.
“I'm sure!” He whispered and I gulped down hair. I still don't believe him, but I will take his word for it. I do not have a choice here, if I want to take over the city, then I need as many help as possible.
“Deal!” I answered.
