Lines that blur

He didn't touch me. That was the cruelest part. He stepped back instead, poured himself a drink, and watched me like I was something dangerous left unattended. "You look disappointed," he said. "I'm not," I lied. "You are," he replied. "You expected pressure. Force. Something obvious." I crossed my arms. "You brought me here. What did you expect?" "That you'd realize something," he said. "Power isn't loud. It waits." He set the glass down and finally closed the distance between us, stopping just short again. Always just short. "You're free to leave," he said softly. "That's what makes this interesting." My pulse betrayed me. "You keep saying that like you want me to go." "I want you to choose." I laughed, breathless. "You make it sound noble." "It isn't," he said honestly. "It's selfish." His fingers lifted, hovering near my chin without touching. I froze. "You don't belong to me," he said. "Not yet. But you're already thinking about what it would feel like if you did." My throat tightened. I hated how right he was. "You scare me," I whispered. "Good," he said again. "Fear sharpens desire." I stepped back, needing space. "This is a mistake." He nodded slowly. "Most powerful things are." Silence settled between us, heavy and unresolved. When I finally turned toward the door, he didn't stop me. That hurt more than if he had. "Two days," he said behind me. "That's how long you'll last before you come back." I paused, hand on the handle. "You don't know me." His voice dropped. "I know exactly how long you can pretend you don't want this." I left. But the truth followed me home. ——————————— ——————————— Nothing can go back to how it was after this. Every decision now has a cost. Would you call this love... or obsession?
