CHAPTER FOUR “He’s having a costume party tomorrow night.” Vance followed Winston to the adjoining kitchen of Winston’s guest cottage two days later. Winston got cups from the walnut cabinet. “How did you find that out?” “With the help of a friend from the force.” Vance sat at the counter and clasped his hands. His hands wore rugged with various scars and scratches and just looking at them told a person everything he’d experienced in life. “My friend has a daughter.” Vance smiled wide with a mouthful of gaps and crooked teeth. “Young, beautiful and everything firm.” Winston smirked, pouring cherry juice into cups. “And?” “Jonathan loves giving to organizations so for a few pounds, I got her to pretend she was in charge of some charity she made up.” He nodded. “I sent her to Jonathan’s to see what she could find out.” Vance took the cup from Winston and sipped. “She said he flirted ridiculously.” “Did she see Dee?” “No, but Jonathan showed her around and they were decorating for the party. She asked about it and he invited her. Everyone must wear masks and customs so it shouldn’t be hard for you to—” “Sneak inside to see Dee?” Winston grabbed Vance’s face. “I could kiss you.” “b****y hell.” Vance pushed Winston away. “That won’t be necessary.” Winston laughed. ****
