Finding the Treasure

Daniel was torn between going to the man or going to his mom. "Mr. Daniel?" called one of the nurses from five meters away. The shout instantly broke Daniel's train of thought. He hurried to continue running. "How is my mother, nurse?" "Ms. Lina is experiencing a condition where the blood clot in her head is enlarged and she is unconscious," said the nurse while occasionally looking at the notes on several sheets of paper in her hand. "What? What then?" Daniel's heart was in turmoil. "The expert doctor and several nurses are doing their best in the room. For the results later, we will wait for Doctor Ervan to leave the room." The nurse walked away from Daniel. Daniel's body collapsed on the floor with teary eyes. It wasn't long before Doctor Ervan came out. "Your name is Daniel? Ms. Lina's son?" Daniel immediately stood up and wiped away the tears. "Yes, Doc. I am his son." "So here it is, Mr. Daniel. The blockage in Ms. Lina's head has congealed; to treat the congestion, we will perform surgery," said Doctor Ervan. "Surgery?" "Yes, and before performing the surgery, we need a down payment first." "How much, Doc?" "Considering that this is a very big operation, the cost of the operation is $6500, but we need a down payment of $3000," said Doctor Ervan while taking off his glasses. "What? $6500?" Daniel's brain instantly stopped thinking. His heart also stopped beating. Let alone pay for all the surgery costs; Daniel didn't even have a down payment. "How about it, Mr. Daniel?" Again, Doctor Ervan's voice broke into his thoughts. "Okay, Doc. I agree. When do I have to prepare the money?" Daniel couldn't say no. I don't know where he will get the money; the important thing is that his mother's life must be saved first. "If you agree, come with me to sign the consent letter. I will explain further." Doctor Ervan walked into the room, followed by Daniel. Coming out of Doctor Ervan's room, Daniel's legs felt very weak. His steps were slow as he thought about how he got that much money. Daniel then remembered the letter from a person he didn't know. "That person? Is he still there?" Daniel ran to where he saw the man. "Excuse me, sir. Where did the person who was sitting here go?" Daniel asked the janitor. "Which one, sir?" "He was wearing a white shirt and shoes and was busy with his mobile phone," Daniel explained. "Sorry, sir. I didn't see a man wearing a white shirt earlier. Maybe you saw it wrong," the janitor replied and continued mopping the floor. Daniel was pensive. "Maybe I saw it wrong?" *** The next day, Daniel went to the company of the man who claimed to be his father. "There's no other choice. He's my father or not; I need a lot of money for my mom's surgery." Daniel's eyes didn't blink once he arrived at the location. The company's towering building, plus the modern design of the building, made Daniel feel insecure about going inside. "Would someone like me work for a company this big?" Daniel slowly walked towards the main door of the company. He was greeted by a security guard, who helped open the door. Daniel continued to walk towards the reception area. "Good morning, how may I help you?" asked the receptionist, who stood smiling and welcoming Daniel. "I'd like to see Mr. Robert," Daniel replied hesitantly. "Have you made an appointment yet?" "No, but..." Daniel was at a loss as to how he should proceed. It was impossible for him to say that he got a letter from Mr. Robert saying that he was his father. "What's your name?" the receptionist asked while moving the mouse and staring at the monitor screen. "Daniel Radcliffe." The receptionist's finger stopped. Her eyes looked at Daniel with a surprised look. "Please have a seat, Mr. Daniel. Mr. Jheo will be with you in a moment." The receptionist directed Daniel to sit alone with the other guests. Not long after, a male figure approached Daniel. "Mr. Daniel, I'm glad you came so soon and this." "You? You were the one who gave the letter that time, right? Have you also been in the hospital?" Daniel got up from his seat and welcomed Mr. Jheo's handshake. This was the first time Daniel knew that the man who met him was called Mr. Jheo. "Hmm, if it's in the hospital, maybe you saw it wrong. Come, follow me!" Daniel followed where Mr. Jheo's footsteps led. After passing through the lift and several hallways, Daniel's footsteps stopped in front of a fairly large door. "Please come in, Mr. Daniel. Mr. Robert is waiting for you inside." Mr. Jheo opened the door. Daniel stood for a few moments before stepping into a room that looked very spacious with expensive-looking office furniture. "So am I going to meet my father or the owner of the company?" Daniel's heart was full of questions and anxieties. "Go ahead!" commanded Mr. Jheo as he gestured for Daniel to enter the room. Daniel sighed. Step by step, he saw the man behind the swivel chair that covered the man's entire body from behind. "Daniel, finally Papa can meet you," said the man as he put out a cigarette in the ashtray on the table. Daniel was silent as he looked at the man who looked like him. Between belief and disbelief, that's what Daniel felt. "Some of what I want to say has been written in the letter. There are many factors that make Papa and your mom unable to be together. But I want to make up for all my past mistakes by giving you the position of personnel director," Mr. Robert said as he looked at Daniel, who sat pensively staring at him. "Personnel director?" Daniel couldn't believe what was happening in front of him. Just yesterday, he had been humiliated by Clara's family; now he had a prestigious position in a prestigious company in his country. However, instead of immediately accepting the position, Daniel's heart was still filled with curiosity about Mr. Robert. "How can you be sure that I am your son?" Daniel asked. "Why don't you reverse the question? Why don't you believe me?" Robert's question again left Daniel speechless. His heart wanted to reveal many things, but his mouth couldn't. "What if this is just a trap? What if I trust people too much? My life will end like how I was treated by Clara's family."Many questions floated through Daniel's mind.
