Chapter V - Years.

Fidgetting her way from under the brutal tackle, she rolled herself away on the mat until she was in safe distance from her opponent. With a groan she rubbed her sore bum standing through the pain. The smack down had really done a number or two to her body — her back ached and she was pissed. Grinning her opponent wiggled her eyebrows. “You did not expect that.” she happily sang pushing herself off the mat. Glaring at the dark skinned girl, an annoying triumphant smirk on her, chin held high awarding herself a pat of pride. Her afro hair tied into two french braids, the ends resting a bit over her shoulder. Her hair always intrigued her, whenever it wasn’t unbraided it hanged on her head like a disco ball — it never fell down unless tied or straighten, unlike hers she hadn’t needed much of an effort. “You went total .K.O. on me.” she groaned stretching herself, her muscles felt rather tense or maybe her opponent just strained her muscles. “Well if I win I do get a price from you.” she chirpped clapping her palms together — she had it all sorted out. With an inaudible sigh she forcefully smile, a bit. “Right.” she only did agree because she would win — more skilled and experienced. Even despite knowing it, she dreaded each moment because even if she won — someone would still drag her along — forcefully if necessary. Whistling for their attention, she clapped her hands once the two young girls faced her. “Girls less chit chat and more fighting.” their mentor spoke with a stern tone. Only smiling at her mother she took her attention back to her opponent, whilst she acknowledged their mentor with a verbal response. “Yes ma’am.” a perky smile she took her undivided attention to the blonde head, across the mat. Taking her stance her eyes studied the other girl, her foot work and tactics — it wasn’t much of a matter of expect the unexpected, her very move was expected. Her kicks or punches, it did help her a bit knowing she was stronger and muscly then her. Dodging her left and right jabs she successful pounced on the girl’s lower abdomen. Dropping to her knees she groaned — not the so best way to go out but it wasn’t her face this time, and she didn’t want it to be. Face still facing the floor she raised her right arm then mumbled something incoherent. “I almost won — I was so close.” she grasped for air once she fell back against the mat. Such a fast fight. Dropping her arms to her side she stared at the girl bewildered — it didn’t even last a minute or two this time, and she was out. Glancing at her mother she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, only to be met with her mother’s wide smile — shaking her head in disbelief, yet she should have expected it. The woman simply chuckled leaving the two alone in the room. “Next time.” Deni mumbled helping up to her feet. She had grown a bit over the years, for starters her chest wasn’t as flat as before, her height scaled and her body compromised more muscle then the skinny bones alone. “I doubt that, like you’ve been doing this for years and I just started.” she snorted. Walking over to her water bottle she chugged half the contents before shoving it into her opponents arms. “It’s just five years, no need to make a fuss about it.” wiping the sweat from her forehead — some drenching her black over sized tank top, she threw her bag pack over her shoulder. “Yeah sure Deni.” her words drenched with sarcasm, she didn’t have to face her to know she rolled her eyes. “You always overrate Skylar, it is no big deal.” Her bag pack strapped to her back she walked out the training room — she could not waiting for that lovely warm cloud to engulf her, a heavy couple of days called for a good old rest. “Yes it is as your best friend I am very proud!” She had almost forgot her friend would follow her. Glaring at her arm looped around hers she stared up to meet her gaze. “You are my only friend and I met you a couple of months ago.” Playfully nudging her side she smiled teasingly. “So I’m hearing best friend.” ignored her remark and walked further to the metal door to her sector. “Where are you going?” Skylar furrowed her eyebrows at but yet willingly following her. “To my room, where else?” Stepping aside for the older woman to pass she politely nodded her head, and so did Skylar. Once the woman was out of sight Skylar rushed back to her side, her arm around her neck. “Come exploring with me around the ship.” Enticing wouldn’t help her case, no matter how tempting, exciting it might sound — she did not want to. “No!” “We could make more friends.” Skylar beamed. “No, thank you.” The girl beside her pouted, “What type of thirteen year old are you? You don’t attend school, you’ve been training in all fighting skills since like eight, you hate people—” It wasn’t anything like that — people could be crude, selfish and really mean but it didn’t mean she didn’t like them — maybe most but she did have some she liked. Snapping her attention to her friend she stopped walking, a serious glare thrown towards her. “Now hold up I don’t hate people, I would just like less interaction as possible.” The lesser the better, was it not? “You really have zero people skills, you punched me when we first met.” Deni shrugged entering her room, how could she forget the strange girl following her — peeping, hiding — it was rather strange and scary. “If I might remind you, you scared me.” “I was trying to help, you looked lost.” “I was not.” she argued throwing her bag on the floor. The good thing about single rooms — she could be as messy as she wanted, and it was her own little private space. “You were!” “Fine!” she groaned pinching the bridge of her nose. Before getting her hope’s high Skylar sat up, her head tilted to the side she narrowed her eyes at Deni. “Fine as in you accept or fine you coming with.” “Fine because I’m coming with you, you always wanted me to see your damn school.” she mumbled staring blankly at the excited girl. Jumping off the bed she almost hugged Deni but the girl quickly moved out of the way, leaving her hanging. “It will be fun!” nevertheless she still seemed excited. Clapping her hands, smiling and doing a bit of a dance. “I’m so excited.” No she was not — not in the slightest.
