Chapter 2

1438 Words
Cheryl, who was wearing a wedding dress, could not help but look over as well. Her eyes met Drake's. Their eyes met, and they were both speechless. Cheryl sighed softly. 'So this is my future husband? A complete stranger? How pitiful that I've never even had a chance to experience love before this!' Her heart ached, and she couldn't help but look at her grandmother again. Michelle didn't even glance at her, as if she didn't care about the wedding that was full of schemes. Cheryl bit her lip. At this moment, the grievance in her heart surged. 'I've worked so hard for the family, doing my best to prove my abilities. All I ever wanted was for my grandmother to acknowledge me, even with just a word of praise. But all I've received is this indifference. Why?' At this moment, Cheryl wished she could tear off her wedding dress and run out of this suffocating scene. But then she saw her parents, who were stuck behind the crowd. Especially her weak father, who was shaking his head at her in pain, as if begging her to go through with the wedding. Cheryl bit her lip harder. Her beautiful face was filled with despair. Then, she became calm. At this moment, the old lady passed the microphone to Sabrina. Sabrina proudly announced, "The groom of the Sanchez family's granddaughter is Drake Lester. Let's all send the couple our best wishes." Applause rang out, and the auditorium was filled with strange laughter. The mockery in the applause and laughter pierced Cheryl's heart like a knife. Sabrina walked down and grabbed Cheryl's hand, as if she were afraid Cheryl would run away. Drake was someone that Sabrina and Lawrence had selected on purpose. Rumor had it that he had just returned from the battlefield, suffered from severe violent tendencies, and had even killed people. Having such a madman as a live-in son-in-law was like a ticking time bomb beside Cheryl. 'Hopefully, this Drake will lose control one day, beat Cheryl to death, and then that useless Ian's family will no longer be a threat,' Sabrina viciously thought as she forcefully dragged Cheryl onto the stage. With a smile, Sabrina handed Cheryl's hand to Drake. She even had a strange smile on her face. "Drake, I'll leave Cheryl to you in the future. You have to treat her well." Drake did not say a word. He gently held Cheryl's hand, his eyes filled with gentleness. The girl who had saved him ten years ago was as beautiful as an angel. Ten years later, Cheryl was still so kind and gentle. Facing the mockery around her, she calmly endured it. Drake swore to protect this angel at all costs. At this moment, thunderous applause sounded from the venue. Everyone wore fake smiles on their faces. Cheryl's mind went blank. Uneasiness, grievance, anger, and all kinds of emotions attacked her heart. 'So, I'm really marrying a stranger like this? From now on, I'll be Drake's wife.' Cheryl's vision turned dark. She didn't even know how the wedding ended. When she woke up, she realized that she had unknowingly arrived at the garden behind the hotel. Drake had been by her side the entire time. Looking at the gentle Drake, Cheryl turned her head, her face extremely pale. "Honey, are you tired?" Drake walked over and asked with concern. The word 'honey' made Cheryl tremble. Drake could not help but hold her hand. "Don't worry. No one will bully you in the future." Cheryl's face flushed slightly as she struggled free and sighed. "Drake, I know you're also a victim, being used by the family. This marriage is a plot against me." Drake looked at her with compassion, wanting so badly to take out the old burger wrapper and explain everything. But he held back—now wasn't the right time. He preferred to protect Cheryl from the shadows for now. "Oh, just married and can't wait to show affection?" A sudden voice interrupted them. It was Ashley, the daughter of Sabrina, strutting over with a drink in her hand. Ashley sneered at them and raised her glass toward Cheryl, "Congratulations, Cheryl, on marrying a murderer." She chuckled gleefully as she spoke. Cheryl's face flushed red as she glared at the malicious Ashley, clenching her small fists. Ashley paid no mind and turned her gaze to Drake. "And you, tramp—make sure to remember the Sanchez family's generosity and charity. Don't hesitate to discipline Cheryl. If she doesn't behave well, feel free to hit her!" Drake said coldly, "I will never lay a finger on Cheryl. You can shut your mouth now!" 'What?' Cheryl looked at Drake in surprise. She didn't expect him to dare to speak to Ashley like that. Ashley was furious. "Who are you telling to shut up? You vagrant, do you know who I am?" The kind-hearted Cheryl couldn't help but step in front of Drake, softly saying, "Ashley, he doesn't know anything. Please don't make things harder for us." "Humph? Do you even deserve it?" Ashley, still furious, threw her drink. With a splash, the cold liquid hit Cheryl's face. Stunned, Cheryl touched the wine on her face, feeling her skin sting and her vision blur. The humiliation and anger made her breath quicken. She raised her hand, eager to slap Ashley across the face and shut her up for good. But she was too kind-hearted, and in the end, the slap never came. "Cheryl, you dare raise your hand to scare me?" Ashley threw her cup aside and was about to slap Cheryl. At this moment, Drake's figure flashed over and grabbed Ashley's arm fiercely. Just then, Drake's figure flashed, and he firmly grabbed Ashley's arm. His gaze was icy, filled with killing intent. "Apologize to my wife immediately, or else…" "Or else what?" Ashley screeched, "I'm the first daughter of the Sanchez family. Do you dare hit me?" Smack! Drake raised his hand and slapped Ashley hard across her face. The force of the slap nearly sent her flying. She screamed in pain, covering her face, her mouth full of blood. Cheryl was stunned as she looked at Drake in shock. This man, who had just become her husband, actually slapped Ashley to shut her up. Soon, Ashley screamed again, "Drake, Cheryl, you adulterous couple, kneel down and apologize to me now! Or else…" Drake revealed a terrifying smile. "The one who should be kneeling and apologizing is you!" With that, he grabbed Ashley by the hair and dragged her toward Cheryl. Ashley screamed as she was dragged over and pressed in front of Cheryl. Drake grabbed Ashley's hair coldly and forced her to kneel down to apologize to Cheryl. Cheryl was stunned again. Drake looked at Cheryl, who was in a daze. "Honey, is that enough? If you're still angry, I'll beat her up again!" Cheryl woke up and shouted nervously, "Let her go! If Sabrina finds out, she'll kill you!" Drake sneered and let go of Ashley. Ashley got up in fear. Tears streamed down her face, smearing her makeup. She staggered toward the hotel, screaming as she ran, "Drake and Cheryl, you lackeys! Just wait! My mother won't let you get away with this!" Drake remained calm. Cheryl, however, was anxious, clenching her fists tightly. Not knowing Drake's true identity, she was incredibly worried. "Drake, why did you do that?" Drake said seriously, "Because you're my wife, and protecting you is the most important thing I should do." Cheryl felt touched, her face blushing slightly, and her shy expression was incredibly adorable. She glanced up and saw her parents coming out of the banquet hall. Grabbing Drake, she quickly turned to leave. "Let's go home immediately. You've caused big trouble." Soon, Cheryl drove out of the hotel with her parents and Drake. At this moment, Ashley was already crying in front of Sabrina. Sabrina had been talking with several important clients. Seeing her beloved daughter in such a pitiful state, she was shocked. She had her secretary escort the clients out and rushed over to hug her daughter. "Ashley, what's going on?" Ashley touched her swollen face, her makeup ruined, and tearfully recounted what had happened in the garden. "What? That wretched b*tch Cheryl dared to have Drake hit you?" Sabrina screamed in fury. "How dare those two lackeys!" She didn't even ask for the reason, nor did she need to. Her daughter, Ashley, was the first lady of the family, far more noble than that unwanted Cheryl. "Don't cry, my dear. I will make sure you get justice and punish Cheryl harshly."
