The shrill ring of the alarm clock roused Cassy from her slumber. It was just 5 am in the morning but she needed to be up early to do the cleaning and prepare the dishes. The maid assigned to her, lily had taken ill the previous day and won't be available for her work today.
She turned to the right side of the bed and rested her eyes on Ryan who was already snoring away in his sleep. Just then, memories of the previous night came running in her head.
"You had a rough past didn't you" she asked, this time confident the question came out well. Ryan stopped and turned to star at hair.
"What made you reason like that" he whimpered.
"It's obvious, from your actions" she said.
Cassy stood up from the bed side where she sat all this while and moved close to Ryan. She placed her two palms on the opposite sides of his cheek in a bid to comfort him and then, looked into his eyes,
"Tell me all about it. A problem shared is a problem half solved they say" Cassy concluded, glaring at him.
Ryan felt weak by that little action alone. He pulled her hands away from his face and made to sit on the bed.
"Yeah, you are right, only that the problem is going to be fully solved in my case" Ryan said grinning at her.
Cassy knew best not to ask him what he meant. 'It definitely had something to do with the revenge he mentioned on the moonlight rite' she thought.
"I grew up like every normal, little werewolf" he began.
Cassy moved close to him, moved the chair by the corner and sat on it facing him.
"I had my parents with me, my dad was a beta and a very close friend to the Apha of his pack, silver pack" he continued
"Things were going well, we all lived fine. The alpa was a very rich man and because he had no heir, my dad always benefited from his quest" he stopped and looked up at Cassy. She seemed to be enjoying the story.
"Why isn't my dinner ready yet?" He asked, nudging her back to reality.
" I am sorry, let me go check on lily" Cassy mumbled.
She stood up and made for the kitchen and there sprawling on the floor was lily who was thought to be making the dinner.
Lily was a young maid assigned to her by virtue of becoming a luna.
She rushed lily who was scrunching her tummy.
"Lily what's wrong with you?" Cassy whimpered looking all over lily for answers.
"I..I am soo sorry, I am in severe pain..I..I don't know what is wrong with me" lily struggled for words.
Cassy rushed to call the packs care giver who took lily away.
There were sandwiches in the pan which meant she was done cooking so she simply transferred it to plates made the table and served hers and her alpha's.
In some packs like her dads, moon valley pack, the alpha, his luna, their blood line and that of the beta's all eat together and from the same pot.
She really loved it that way because of the socialization and not the confinement she was forced to accept here in dark moon pack.
She immediately positioned the food and beckoned to Ryan who came out hurriedly and was surprised to see just her and lily no where in sight.
Cassy explained what happened earlier on when she entered the kitchen but Ryan didn't seem interested, just focusing on his. Well, things like this don't usually bother him.
Ryan only mumbled something about getting more maids for her.
They finished their meal and Cassy cleared the table hurriedly so they could get back to the story.
Ryan was lying with his back to the bed when Cassy got back. He was going through some paperwork.
"Please go back to the story" Cassy pleaded, spluring
"Okay. Moon valley was the closest pack to ours then and our greatest rival" Ryan felt his whole system crumbling as he said this.
He could remember it vividly well as if it were yesterday. He could remember the moon valley wolves invading their border unannounced. He was just a little kid of 7 then. He could remember standing helplessly watching his people devoured by their enemies, he watched as people got devoured even before they could shapeshift but all he could do was to watch and cry.
No category of person was spared, kids, toddlers, elders were all slain. He had left his parents earlier that day and gone out to play. He had no single idea of how he could get back to his family that is, if they were still alive. He was still thinking and wailing state when some strong hands grabbed him from behind and ran from behind their pack into the very thick forest, just running not minding the number of turns that pierced at his skin.
The figure that grabbed him had already placed him on his back he could tell by now it was a man.
He had already stopped crying and taken a last look at his pack, the pack where he grew with a complete family. He could not fathom exactly what was going on but one thing was very certain, his family members were slain by rogue wolves, his pack was destroyed by their enemies.
And just like that, the new Ryan was birthed.
He managed to narrate the whole tragedy to Cassy amidst tears forming in his eyes. Cassy noticed it and beckoned on him to stop but nah, he still had a lot to say.
He narrated to her how he and his rescuer sojourned to this pack. How his rescuer, Gwan became a royal servant to the then Alpha and how the alpha took him as his own son as his lunas were unable to give him a bloodline.
"I am really sorry about all you went through" Cassy said gobsmacked.
"I have always thought I had the worst growing up, it's good you are fine now" she moved close to him and placed her left hands on the side of his face using her other hand to draw him closer to her chest.
Ryan withdrew from her. This actions always made him feel weak.
"I experience nightmares most times because of that experience. But then, that will be all over once I have my revenge" Ryan said grinning.
"I will run away from this s**t head" Cassy sighed
' How will I be used as bait to get at his enemy? How could Ryan openly confess to me that he mated me for selfish reasons?" Cassy asked rhetorically. At this point, she realized she was talking out, stood up from the bed and made for the kitchen to avoid being heard.
She watched a little mice crawl into a hole and just then, she wished for a comfort in throes of dilation.
