Alpha Rowan didn’t let Ava leave. "Since you’re not here for us, then why did you cross the border?" His voice echoed in the hall. Ava scanned the room. 50 wolves. All staring. Waiting for her to break. "I’m here for a challenge," she said. Murmurs. Darius laughed. "You? Challenge who?" "The Alpha position," Ava said flat. The hall went dead silent. "You were exiled for being wolf-less," Rowan said slowly. "And now you want to rule?" Ava stepped forward. Her wolf stirred under her skin for the first time in 3 years. Not weak. Not broken. Alpha. "Three years ago I couldn’t shift. Today, I can tear this pack apart with one hand tied." She pulled her sleeve up. A silver mark glowed on her wrist. The Mark of the North Alpha. A title even Rowan didn’t have. Darius’s face went white. "So," Ava smiled. "Who’s scared?" Alpha Rowan didn't let Ava leave. "Since you're not here for us, then why did you cross the border?"
