Chapter 6: The Dream

232 Words
I dreamed of him that night. Not the Alpha who rejected me. The boy who cried when his father beat him. The one who used to sneak me honey cakes behind the stables. In the dream, he didn’t let me go. He dropped to his knees in the Great Hall and begged. “I choose you, Lyra. Always you.” I woke up at 3am, crying. Stupid. He’s the reason I’m an Omega in exile. I was in the kitchens before sunrise. Chopping. Bleeding. Anything to shut my brain up. “Couldn’t sleep either?” Darius. He was leaning in the doorway, looking wrecked. Dark circles under his eyes. Same as me. “You should be with your pack,” I said. “They’re gone. I came alone.” He stepped in. “For you.” I slammed the knife down. “Stop saying that.” He didn’t move. “I haven’t slept in two weeks, Rae. Since the bond came back. Every time I close my eyes I see you on that floor. I hear you choking.” My hands shook. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. “For all of it.” I wanted to believe him. My wolf wanted to run to him. Instead I picked up the knife again. “Sorry doesn’t un-break a bond, Darius.” I felt his eyes on my back long after I left.
