Chapter 7: The jealousy

259 Words
A new Omega arrived at dawn. Young. Pretty. Red hair. Alpha Kade assigned her to the kitchens with me. “She’s 18,” Kade said. “Fresh from her heat. Be gentle.” My wolf snarled. Darius showed up for patrol 10 minutes later. His eyes locked on the new girl instantly. “Alpha,” she bowed, blushing. “I’m Mira.” “Mira,” he nodded. His voice was soft. Something in my chest cracked. I turned back to the pots. My hands were shaking again. “Rae,” Darius said behind me. “Can we talk?” “Ask her,” I said without looking up. Silence. Then footsteps. He walked away. Mira giggled at something he said outside. I gripped the counter until my knuckles went white. Three years I hated him. Two days he’s back and I’m already bleeding. That night I didn’t eat. I sat on my cot and watched the door. Waiting. He never came. Mira’s laughter echoed down the hall once. Then silence. I told myself I didn’t care. I told myself it was better if he chose her. My wolf clawed at my ribs all night. “Mine. Mine. Mine.” By morning I was exhausted. And I hated him more than I did three years ago. Stupid wolf. Stupid mate bond. I threw a cup across the kitchen. It shattered. Kade appeared in the doorway. “Rae?” “Fine,” I lied. “Just clumsy.” But I wasn’t fine. I was jealous. And I hated myself for it.
