Three days later, my wound was almost healed.
But something else wasn’t.
I kept smelling him. Darius. Even when he wasn’t in the room.
My wolf was restless. Pacing.
“Rae,” Alpha Kade said. “We need to talk.”
He looked old. Tired.
“The elders are here,” he said. “They heard about the attack. And about you… jumping for him.”
My stomach dropped.
“They think the bond is reforming,” Kade said. “If it fully returns, you’ll be marked. His Luna. Whether you want it or not.”
“No,” I said. “I rejected that bond.”
“Bonds don’t care what we want,” he said softly. “Especially mate bonds.”
That night, I ran.
Into the woods. As far as I could.
I shifted. Ran until my lungs burned.
“DON’T RUN FROM ME!”
Darius.
He shifted too. Caught me in three strides. Tackled me to the grass.
He wasn’t in Alpha form. Just Darius.
“Stop,” I snarled.
“Then say you don’t want me,” he said. His nose was at my neck. “Say it, Rae.”
I couldn’t.
His teeth scraped my skin. Right above my collarbone.
Not biting. Just... waiting.
“Choose,” he whispered. “Me or run forever.”
