Chapter 13: The Attack

The rogues came at dawn.
Not a small group. An army.
“EVACUATE THE OMEGAS!” Kade roared.
I was already running. Mira grabbed my arm. “Where’s Darius?”
“Front line.”
We hit the forest edge and stopped.
He was there. Bleeding. Outnumbered.
“DARIUS!” I shifted mid-run.
I tore into the first rogue. Claws. Teeth. Rage.
Darius saw me and froze for half a second. “Rae, NO!”
Too late. A blade came for his back.
I leapt. It sank into my shoulder instead.
Pain. Fire.
He caught me before I hit the ground.
“Stupid girl,” he growled. But his hands were shaking as he tore his shirt to press against the wound.
“Had to,” I gritted. “You’re mine to protect.”
His eyes went silver. Full Alpha.
He stood. Me in his arms.
“EVERYONE BACK!” His voice cracked the trees.
The pack froze. The rogues froze.
Then he did it.
His teeth sank into my neck. Hard.
Pain. Heat. Bond snapping back into place like a chain.
When he pulled back, blood was on his lips.
“My Luna,” he said. Loud enough for all to hear. “Touch her again, and I end you.”
The rogues ran.
