I woke up marked. Darius’s bite was still burning on my neck. Fresh. Red. Obvious. I wasn’t in the infirmary. I was in his bed. His arms were around me. “Don’t,” I said. “Don’t what?” “Pretend this fixes it.” He didn’t let go. “It doesn’t. But it starts it.” I turned in his arms. The bond was back. Full force. I could feel him. His guilt. His fear. His relief that I was alive. And he could feel me. “Can you hear me?” I thought. His eyes widened. “Rae?” “Yeah.” I was terrified. “I can hear you too.” “Three years,” he whispered. “I’ve been alone in here.” I touched his face. “I know.” Alpha Kade knocked. “Elders are here. They want to see the Luna.” Darius sat up. “Then they’ll see her.” He pulled me up. Fixed my hair. Kissed my forehead. Right over the mark. “Ready?” he asked. “No,” I said. “But I’m with you.” We walked out together. The elders saw the mark. They saw his hand in mine. One of them bowed. “Luna Lyra.” My wolf stood tall.
