Chapter 9 : The choice

226 Words
Alpha Kade called me to his office that night. “Rogues were spotted near the south border,” he said. “Darius wants to take a team. He requested you.” “No.” “Rae—” “He can take Mira,” I cut him off. “She’s young. Strong. And she doesn’t hate him.” Kade studied me. “You’re choosing pride over pack?” “I’m choosing myself,” I said. He sighed. “Fine. But if something happens to him, that’s on you.” The words hit harder than they should’ve. I didn’t sleep. At midnight, a scream ripped through the packhouse. Rogues. I ran without thinking. Claws out. Teeth bared. The south border was chaos. Blood. Fur. Darius was fighting three rogues alone. Mira was on the ground, unconscious. “DARIUS!” I hit the first rogue like a truck. We rolled. I tore its throat out. The second came for me. Darius got there first. He threw it off the cliff. The last one lunged at his back. I didn’t think. I jumped. Claws sank into my side. Pain. Then Darius was on it. He ripped it apart. When it was over, he was holding me. Shaking. “Don’t you dare die on me,” he whispered. “Not again.” And I realized… I didn’t hate him anymore.
