Chapter 2: Three years later

274 Words
Three years. Three years since the Black Moon Pack threw me out like trash. I’m not Lyra Moore anymore. I’m Rae. Just Rae. The Red River Pack took me in. No questions. No mate bond to break me again. I work in their kitchens. I keep my head down. I keep my wolf caged. I’m 21 now. Stronger. Colder. I don’t cry when I hear the word “mate.” I don’t flinch when I see an Alpha. Tonight, Alpha Kade called all Omegas to the training yard. “War scouts near the border,” he said. “Everyone helps.” I went. Because that’s what Omegas do. And that’s when I saw him. Across the yard. In black armor. Silver eyes. Darius. My rejected mate. His eyes locked on mine. And his wolf howled inside my head. “Mate,” it whispered. The bond we killed three years ago... it was back. My wolf scratched at my ribs, desperate to go to him. I shoved her down. Hard. Never again. He took one step toward me. The crowd parted. “Rae,” his voice was rough. Lower than I remembered. “You’re alive.” I lifted my chin. “I’m not yours, Darius.” His jaw clenched. “The bond says otherwise.” Alpha Kade’s voice cut through the yard. “Darius of Black Moon. State your business.” Darius didn’t look away from me. “I’m here for her. She’s my mate.” Every Omega around us gasped. I turned and walked away. Because the boy who rejected me in front of a whole pack doesn’t get a second chance. Not yet.
