Chapter 4: Question (4)

‘Is a love that can’t flourish worth it? No… maybe I shouldn’t think about things like that. I don’t even know what love is anymore…’ Jayden thought to himself as he laid down on the hospital bed, he had began regaining his consciousness.
“The patient’s heart rate and breathing are normal. He should be waking up soon.” One of the nurses said then went to another room to check up on someone else.
‘Where am I? Hospital…’ Jayden slowly managed to open his eyes and seeing the ghastly white walls, it was obvious what had happened.
‘I wonder… if Anthony is here as well…’ He wondered as he slowly turned his head to both sides but instead of his ex lover or even his best friend, in the room was a total stranger.
“Are you awake? I’ll go call the Doctor!” The stranger said, he looked very young, possibly still a student. He walked out of the room in a hurry and came back soon after with the Doctor.

“Good… Your condition is stabilized.” The Doctor said as he smiled lightly. “That was quite the fall but you’re strong.” He continued.
“Is my lov-… is my ex here?” Jayden asked as he continued looking around but Anthony was nowhere to be seen.
“I’m sorry he seemed to have urgent business and left first.” The Doctor replied.
“I’m not surprised…” Jayden muttered to himself quietly. ‘So this is it… The man I’ve loved no longer loves me. I should have seen this coming.’ He thought to himself, even though he felt miserable it was also not as bad as it would have been if they were still madly in love with each other. Somehow he felt like the time had come for them to separate and he was able to accept that.
“Um…” The young student like male spoke up. “Are you feeling… alright?”
“Yeah...” Jayden answer in a bit of a confused voice. ‘What’s this kid doing here…’ he wondered to himself.
“Sorry for being here without asking permission but… you looked like you were in pain while sleeping.” The student said as he placed his hand on the other male’s forehead. “I think you have a fever… Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?”
“No, I’m fine.” Jayden said as he moved the student’s hand away from his forehead. ‘What does he even care? And where the Hell are his parents?’
“Thank goodness I was so worried you might be heavily injured. I heard you fell on the stairs. That’s pretty dangerous, you should be careful…” The student said in a worried voice.
“Thanks for the concern but… Can I ask, who are you exactly?” Jayden finally asked the question that was on his mind for a while.
“I’m Zack, I came by your room and saw no one was by your side so I decided to wait for you to wake up.” The student explained as he looked at the ground, he looked shy.
“So why did you do that Zack?” Jayden asked while looking at the student. ‘Doesn’t this kid have anything better to do than look at patients in the hospital…’ He wondered to himself.
“Well… I thought you’d be lonely if nobody was by your side when you woke up.” Zack said as he looked up at the man much older than he was.
“I see…” Jayden thought the student was weird for suddenly deciding to remain by a total stranger’s side. ‘I guess this is the kid’s daily good deed or something like that…’ he thought to himself.
“I hope I’m not bothering you by being here… It’s just when I saw your pained expression I...” Zack hesitated to speak and looked down at the ground again.
“You what? You know it’s not polite to begin a sentence but not finish it.” Jayden said as he sat up straight, he felt a bit better than minutes ago but there was still a light pain on the side he fell on. Thankfully his headache went away fast.
“…I was remained of my parents.” Zack said while looking up. “They were in the hospital, sleeping as you were… They both looked in pain and finally… they passed away.”
‘This kid…’ Jayden felt sorry for the other male. “Come here…” He gestured to the boy to come closer. Zack did as he was told. Then felt a hand land on his head and pet him.
“Wh…” Zack was surprised by the sudden gesture.
“Thank you for staying by my side while I slept.” Jayden said a simple phrase, some empty words that he quickly thought of to calm down. The boy Yet those same words made Zack incredibly happy. Just hearing such encouraging words made him feel much better.
“Um… it’s no problem… I wanted to help…” Zack said while holding back his tears.
“It means a lot! I’m pretty sure you’re parents are proud of what a wonderful young man you’ve grown to be.” Jayden said with a slight smile on his face…
