Abigail, lying on a rough cold stone floor, the faintly red flames circling the room weren’t doing justice to the room, because it was dark. She slowly regains consciousness, her body stiff and her head throbs with an awful dull pain. She blinks her barely conscious eyes open, squinting into the darkness, trying to figure out her surroundings. As her vision clears, she becomes acutely aware that she is with a company. A shiver runs down her spine as she senses a presence in the room. Struggling to sit up, She peers into the gloom. Suddenly, a figure moves, and her breath catches in her throat. The figure turns and she is met with the terrifying sight of a blazing red eye, burning like an ember in the darkness. The figure steps closer but it's face remains obscured by the darkness.Fear grips her but before the Figure could reach her, Abigial eyes snapped open her breaths coming in shorts, frantic gaps. The dim oppressive darkness of the room was gone, replaced by the clinical brightness of a hospital room. She could hear the rhythmic beeping of machines, the sterile scent of antiseptic filled her nostrils. She tried to move but her body felt foreign and uncooperative, panic set in as she attempted lift her head, only to find her self too weak. As her senses gradually sharpened, Abigail noticed the faint figure moving outside the door, Her throat was dry, and when she tried to speak only a faint croak escaped her lips. She swallowed hard, her thoughts racing wildly. How did she get here? the last thing she remembered was the ritual then nothing but great darkness. The door to the room cracked slightly open and a nurse entered, her face lighting up with surprise as she saw Abigail awake.”Oh my God, you are awake!” she exclaimed, rushing to her side. “Where am I?” Abigail’s voice barely a whisper “You’re in st. Raven hospital”, the nurse explained her tone gentle but tingled with amazement. The nurse words did no help in calming abigail disoriented mind “Why……why am i here? How…..how long have i been here?abigail stated slowly trying to gather words and put her racing mind at eaze “Listen, Okay? I know you have so many questions, but i am in no position to answer them, if there is one thing i can say. The nurse pursed not sure whether she should continue, you have been out for two years”. “Two years”. The words echoed in abigail’s mind, the weight of them pressing down on her. She had lost two years of her life. Seeing as her words only terrified abigail, she felt bad “ i’ll be right back, Let me fetch the doctor”. Before abigail could protest the nurse was long gone. Abigail stared at the celling, her mind reeling. Two years. It was as if she had been forzen in time, and the world had moved on without her. She shut her eyes trying to make sense of it all, but the memories were fragmented and elusive. Just as she was starting to process the nurse words, the door to the room burst open, with a force that could make anyone jump.A whirl wind of energy and emotion, Her best friend Darah, rushed into the room, tears streaming down her pale face. “You're awake”,she cried. Her expression a mix of shock, relief and overwhelming happiness. “Abigail!” Darah cried, rushing to bed side, she went down on her knees, grabbing abigail’s hand and clutching it gently but tightly “you are really awake, Oh my God! I can’t believe it, abby i missed you so much. She cried as the streams of tears kept flowing on her pale face, giving it a tiny bit of life. Abigail’s eyes widened, the fog of coma slowly lifting as she recognized the familiar face. “Darah”. She managed to croak, her voice weak and fragile but laced heavily with emotions. “Yes, it's me. It’s Darah.” She affirmed, pulling her in for a hug as careful tears streamed down her face. “I was in a coma. I was gone for two years..” “Yes, but you're back and that is all that matters. I missed you so much.” Darah confessed, breaking the hug and squeezing her palms for support. Abigail sobbed silently. “I thought I would die. I thought…” she was hyperventilating. “Calm down baby girl, you're fine, and you're definitely not dying because you breathing is enough evidence for me.” Abigail wiped the tears that had gathered at the rim of her eyes and managed a smile.” You're right, I'm alive and breathing now because I didn’t die.” Darah nodded slowly. Abigail looked up to Darah, dried tears and snot and Darah couldnt help but chuckle. “You know, I've said this and I will always say it but you seriously look funny when you cry.” Abigail rolled her eyes playfully at her comment as she tried to stand. She slowly removed her legs from the bed and placed them gingerly on the floor. She steadied herself and stood but as soon as she stood back up, she fell, landing on the bed. She tried several times again but all to no avail. She looked at Darah, confusion and worry etched deeply on her face. “Why can't I stand?” Darah was also confused and returned the look of confusion. Just then, the doctor entered and met her trying to stand. He immediately went to her and motioned her to sit back down. “You're really unique.” He praised. She raised her hands and pointed her index finger at herself. “Me?” “Yes.” The doctor replied, nodding. “You just awakened from a coma of two years and you're speaking. Usually, it takes time for coma patients to regain their speech but you're already speaking and you're ready to walk. It seems you are very eager to see someone, a loved one perhaps. For now, you'll need physiotherapy to continue walking as your legs have been dead for quite a while. Based on your determination, you should be able to walk soon.” All the words the doctor said faded in her ears as she remembered someone. She turned to Darah, and with a look of trepidation asked, “Where's Andrew?”
