It was 9:28 am, and Haven's mother sat rigidly on the couch in the parlour, her gaze fixed on the wall as if searching for answers. The morning sunlight streaming through the window highlighted the worry etched on her face. In the kitchen, her sister moved with purpose, preparing breakfast. The sizzle of scrambled eggs and toast filled the air, a stark contrast to the tension in the parlour. Then, Haven's scream shattered the morning calm. Her mother rushed to her room, followed closely by her aunt. "Haven, wake up! What's wrong?" her mother cried, gently shaking her. "why is her body so hot?" Quickly bring a towel and a bowl of cool water, Haven's mother instructed her sister. Haven's aunt helped elevate her niece's legs, loosening her pyjamas to improve airflow. "Cool water, quickly!" she instructed. "As they rushed to her side, her mother gently shook her shoulders, calling out her name. Haven, wake up, dear! What's wrong?' Her aunt arrived with the towel and bowl of water, concerned etched on her face. Her mother dipped the towel in the cool water, wringing it out before gently placing it on Haven's forehead. Haven's eyes fluttered open, unfocused and glassy. Her mother's voice trembled. 'Oh, thank God! Haven, can you hear me?' Haven's aunt helped elevate her niece's legs, loosening her pyjamas to improve airflow. The cool towel seemed to revive Haven, her gaze slowly focusing on her mother's worried face. 'What...what happened?' Haven stammered, her voice weak. Her mother stroked her hair. You had a nightmare, sweetie. You screamed and...and your body was burning up. Haven's eyes widened, memories flooding back. The dream. The darkness. The malevolent spirit's eerie vechoedhoing in her mind. Her mother's expression turned fierce. 'You're not taking my daughter from me!' she whispered as if defying an unseen force. 'No one's taking her away.' Haven's aunt looked on, puzzled. Sister, what do you mean?' Her mother's gaze never left Haven's face. Just a bad dream, that's all. But Haven saw the fear lurking behind her mother's eyes. What's happening, Mom? Haven wondered. What do you know that I don't?" As they tended to Haven, her mother's expression transformed. Fear gave way to determination. "You're not taking my daughter from me!" she whispered fiercely as if defying an unseen force. ************ The doorbell rang, breaking the tense atmosphere. Isabella's expression softened. "That must be Zander and Tracy." Alice nodded. "I'll get it." She walked to the entrance, exchanging sombre greetings with Zander and Tracy. Their faces reflected the sorrow of losing a loved one. "Mom..." Zander said, embracing Isabella tightly. Tracy hugged her too. "We're so sorry, Isabella." Isabella's eyes welled up. "My children...I'm glad you're home." Tino clung to Zander's leg, seeking comfort. Haven, still shaken from her dream, watched from the couch. Zander's expression turned concerned. "Hey, kiddo, how're you doing?" Haven shrugged, unsure how to articulate her feelings. Tracy knelt beside her. "We're here for you, sweetie." Alice guided everyone to the living room. "Elias and Sophia will arrive later. They're driving from a bit far." Isabella nodded. "We'll wait for them before dinner." As they settled in, Zander explained, "I've taken leave from work, and Tracy closed her boutique temporarily. We'll be here for a while." Isabella's gratitude was palpable. "Thank you, children. Your father would want us to stand together." The family's collective grief filled the room, but their unity and love offered a glimmer of hope. "Elias and Sophia will arrive in two days," Alice said, checking her phone for messages. Isabella nodded, a mix of sadness and anticipation on her face. "I'm glad they're coming. It's been too long since we've all been together." Zander and Tracy shared a sympathetic glance, understanding the weight of their mother's grief. "We'll all be here for you, Mom," Zander reassured her. Tracy added, "And we'll help with everything." Isabella's eyes welled up, grateful for her family's support. In two days, Elias and Sophia would join them, bringing solace and strength to the grieving household. *************** A day is about to pass since Isabella's husband's passing. The family struggled to cope with their grief. At dinner, the atmosphere was heavy. The conversation was stilted. Haven pushed her food around her plate. "Mom, I don't feel like eating." Isabella's concern deepened. "Try, sweetie. You need strength." Tino toyed with his vegetables. "I don't like this." Alice attempted to lighten the mood. "Zander, Tracy, how was your day?" Zander forced a smile. "It was...okay." Tracy nodded. "We're managing." But as night fell, the household grew restless. Haven's dreams returned, darker and more twisted. Tino's screams pierced the night. Elias and Sophia's arrival was still two days away. In the darkness, an unseen force stirred. Tino's screams echoed through the house, waking everyone. "Mommy!" he cried, his small body shaking. Isabella rushed to his side. "What's wrong, baby?" Tino's eyes were wild. "The shadows...they're coming for me." Alice comforted him. "It's just a dream, sweetie." But Haven's eyes looked haunted. "I saw shadows too." Zander's brow furrowed. "What's going on?" Tracy wrapped her arms around Haven. "Maybe it's just grief." But Isabella knew better. As the night wore on, the dreams intensified. Dark visions invaded their minds. The family prayed for dawn. But darkness lingered. ****** Morning light crept through the windows, bringing no solace. The family gathered, exhausted. Isabella poured water, her hands shaking. Zander's eyes were bloodshot. "We can't keep living like this." Tracy nodded. "We need answers." Haven whispered, "What if it's not just dreams?" Tino clung to Alice, his eyes wide. The phone rang, breaking the tension. Alice answered, listening before hanging up. "That was Elias," she said. "He and Sophia will arrive by tomorrow evening." Isabella's face fell. Two more days of eerie silence and dark visions. The shadows outside seemed to deepen. And wait. The hours dragged on, heavy with unease. Haven retreated to her room, seeking solace. Tino stuck close to Alice. Zander and Tracy tried to distract themselves with TV. But the shadows lingered. The night began to fall. Isabella's anxiety grew. "one more day," she whispered. Suddenly, Haven screamed. "Tino!" Alice rushed to his room. Tino's eyes were wide. "What's wrong?" Alice asked. "The shadows," Tino whispered. "They're in my room." Alice's heart raced. "Don't worry, baby. I'm here." But Tino's voice rose. "No! They want me!" Zander and Tracy rushed in. "What's happening?" Zander demanded. "The shadows?" Alice replies, frightened. Tracy wrapped Tino in her arms. "We won't let anything hurt you." Haven appeared at the door, pale. "Mom?" she whispered. Isabella hurried over. "What is it, sweetie?" Haven's voice barely registered. "I saw...Dad." Isabella's eyes widened. "In my room," Haven continued. "He said...come with me." The room fell silent. Alice comforted Tino, unaware of the sinister presence. "Shh, baby. It's just a bad dream." Haven's eyes met Isabella's, filled with unspoken fear. Isabella's expression remained neutral, hiding her turmoil. The night wore on, tense and uneasy. The family struggled to sleep, awaiting Elias and Sophia's arrival. But for now, the darkness lingering *************** Alice hummed as she prepared breakfast. "Good morning!" she said, serving rice. Tino and Haven exchanged glances. "Morning," Zander replied, his voice subdued. Tracy forced a smile. "Thanks, Alice." Isabella entered, her eyes puffy. "Sleep okay?" Alice asked. Isabella hesitated. "No...not really." Alice concerned. "Want coffee?" Isabella nodded. As they ate, tension simmered beneath the surface. Alice remained oblivious. "Elias and Sophia will be here soon," she said. "That's something to look forward to." Haven's gaze dropped. Tino fidgeted. Zander and Tracy exchanged uneasy glances. Isabella's eyes clouded. But Alice continued, cheerful. "I'll make their favorite dinner. We'll have a nice family evening." The others nodded, pretending to agree. But their thoughts were elsewhere. Darkness lurked. Waiting!.
