My heart stirred. This was the perfect chance to get back at him. "No, babe. Are you thinking of pursuing me?" I gave him such an exaggerated wink that one of my false lashes almost flew off. Mason's face turned even redder. "Be my girlfriend. Stop livestreaming. I hate the way those losers online look at you. I'll support you." Stop livestreaming? Absolutely not! Pretending to be moved, I covered my mouth. "Really, babe? You're so sweet. But..." I lowered my hand and put on a resolute expression. "I can't. Livestreaming is my dream!" "Your dream?" Mason frowned. "Your dream is to tease men online?" "How could you say that?" I dabbed theatrically at tears that weren't there. "I bring joy to my followers! They work so hard all day. Watching me wiggle my hips is the only thing that gives their lives meaning." "I have to spread my love to the whole world. How could I give up an entire forest for one tree?" Mason's face turned green. "I'll give you 15,000 dollars a month as spending money. Delete your account," he said through clenched teeth, raising his offer. "This isn't about money. It's about responsibility! My followers can't live without me!" I declared firmly. Mason took a deep breath, apparently fighting the urge to flip the table. "Thirty thousand dollars! Foxy, my patience has limits. You can keep streaming, but from now on, you're only allowed to wear turtlenecks. Just try showing one inch of skin!" I nearly burst out laughing. "Fine. Since you're so bossy, I suppose I'll reluctantly agree." After dinner, I saw half a lobster and half an order of foie gras still on the table and immediately waved to the server. "Could you box these up?" Mason stared wide-eyed at the takeout containers. "Foxy, why are you taking all that home?" "Babe, I'm very frugal. Wasting food is wrong. I can heat it up tomorrow." I blinked my big eyes at him. He believed me. His gaze even softened. "You really are the kind of girl who knows how to run a home." At the restaurant entrance, he handed me a black card. "There's 30,000 dollars on it. Tell me if you need more." I took it without hesitation and slipped it into my pocket. "Thanks, babe. You're the best! I'm taking my lobster home now. Bye!" On Monday at school, I wore my faded uniform and wrote an announcement on the board with a piece of chalk. Mason swaggered into the classroom in an unusually good mood. For once, he didn't give me any trouble. He even hummed as he took his seat. When I finished writing and stepped down from the platform, he suddenly called out to me. "Ella, pick up a package for me." I held out my hand. "Errand fee. Ten dollars." He was especially generous that day and handed me 100 dollars. "Keep the change. I'm in a good mood." I took the money and headed for the campus parcel station, grinning inside. His money belonged to me not only at night, but during the day as well. That evening, I went live from the internet cafe as usual. Mason logged in right on time, but this time he didn't ask me to dance. Eastridge's Truest Heart: [Foxy, there's a woman at my school I absolutely can't stand.]
