My fourteenth birthday had come and gone, and I had a fairly great time. It certainly would have been better if Elisa had been there, but the palace and town were surrounded by thousands of vampires. They were ready to attack, and they did attack us every now and again. At most we went maybe a day or two without an attack. Our defences held, and we have watched the skies a lot more now, so we didn’t have another incident like what happened to me. We thankfully didn’t get any more casualties and no one got captured. I was starting to think they were going to try to starve us out or force our hand to reveal where the supply tunnels were, so that they could trap us from all sides.
