He chuckles. “There’s no way Edward would have let that happen.”
A few days ago, I probably would have doubted his words. But I watched Edward defend me in front of everyone today, watched him do things he didn’t have to do. If anyone can testify that Edward is caring underneath the grumpy face and the rotating door of bad moods, it’s me.
Not that I’d say that out loud or his giant ego gets even bigger.
Rio comes up to Eliot and claps him on the back. “Tell Boss we’re off.”
I watch as they file out together, the room slowly falling quiet again until it’s just Eliot and me.
My eyes drift back to him. “Why did he call Edward boss?”
“You’re a curious one.” He says, hesitating for a beat, then smiles. “It’s his lodge, so he gets boss privileges when we crash here. Nothing serious.”
