Chapter 2

Today was busier than yesterday but I'm handling it fine. Blake has even stayed out of my hair. I'm in a great mood and my wolf has excited over something all day. No idea what it is but I don't really have time to think about it. This morning, I was up a little earlier than normal so I took the time to curl my hair and pin it in an updo instead of my usual ponytail. The green in my eyes even stood out a little more today for some reason so I even applied a little bit of eyeliner. Mrs. Rosen even made a comment about how good I looked today. I still had to wear my normal white waitress uniform, a stained apron around my slim waist and white sneakers but that didn't matter.  "Order up!" the cook called from the kitchen and I took table 7 their order. I refilled drinks and helped tables with a smile plastered on my face. I was making great tips, which only meant I could take a trip to the coast and meet with those other packs soon. "Marissa," Blake called as he walked up to me with a girl trailing behind him. "This is Leanna. She's our new girl and she's here to train with you for a few hours before she starts tomorrow." I looked over the girl. She was pretty with Auburn hair. She was on the tinier side but she had a look in her eye that she could take anything that was thrown at her. "Ok, well, we're really busy so I hope you're a fast learner," I tell her with my best reassuring smile. "Yes ma'am. I've already learned the menu and I have a couple years waitressing experience from back east. Where do I start?" My smile got even bigger. I was going to like this girl. "Go ahead and take over the counter seats for now and we'll see how you do." ...............…...... A couple hours later and things were going smooth. I even gave a few tables to Leanna and she was doing great. Things were slowing down after our lunch rush and I was busy wiping down tables. Blake had decided to have Leanna stay for the rest of my shift.  Just then, a man walked in and sat down at the counter. I could smell that he was a wolf, a pack wolf. Good thing Leanna went and ahead took care of him. I didn't need him sending any negative attention my way. He was handsome though, dressed in a suit with short blonde tousled hair. He must've smelled me because he looked in my direction and quirked one side of his mouth up in amusement but didn't make a move to get up. He made small talk with Leanna for a little while but he didn't seem to have placed an order. Werewolves had great hearing but I was across the diner and couldn't hear him over the other patrons. What was going on? The man got up after a few minutes and went to one of our bigger round booths that was empty. I made my way over to Leanna. "What's going on?" I asked her. "Oh, Mr. Hottie says his boss will be here in a few minutes and he got here first to grab a table. I guess his boss must be some VIP and they're passing through," says Leanna with a shrug. "Oh ok. Well, l'll take over the counter for awhile and you can have their table." "Really? Ok, thanks! I appreciate it." She gave me a big smile and walked away.  Wait, his boss? Did he mean his Alpha? He had to have. By the energy he was giving off, my guess was he was a Delta.  My wolf started prancing around in my head like something was about to happen. Then, the door opened and I got the most amazing smell of pine trees and chocolate. I looked in the direction of the door and I locked eyes with the sexiest man I've ever seen. He was tall, lean and muscled, his suit enhancing his body while barely containing it. His bright blue eyes had flecks of brown and you could feel the power radiated behind them. His short hair was dark chocolate brown and so luscious that my fingers itched with the need to run through it. My breathe caught and I was frozen still has his eyes grew dark with barely leashed control over his wolf. His lips raised in a quiet growl as he stalked over to me. I was terrified as my wolf howled Mate in my head. I hadn't even registered the two other men he was with. I was just a rogue, how could I be mated to an Alpha? Oh Goddess, please don't let him kill me, Hailey needs me. As he got to the counter I had slowly backed into the wall behind me. Please, just reject me, please don't kill me. "Marissa! Why are you standing there like a damn statue?! Get to work!" yelled Blake, practically in my ear. I didn't even notice he was next to me and I was so scared, I didn't even listen to what he telling me, but the next thing I knew, my mate somehow was standing right in front of Blake and had him lifted off the ground by his shirt, their faces inches apart. My mate's canines were extended and he growled at Blake. "Ever talk to her like that again, and I'll rip your throat out, " my mate said to a terrified and shaking Blake. His voice wasn't raised and didn't even sound angry but the power in the threat was heard throughout the diner and everyone was silent, watching what was happening with wide eyes. His men were now close to the counter but not intervening. Then, he dropped Blake, who barely caught himself before hitting the floor. My mate gained his composure as he fixed his suit cuffs. "As a matter of fact, she's quitting," he said to no one in particular. He grabbed my hand and led me outside to a black Escalade. Goddes, this is it. He's going to kill me. Please watch over over Hailey, I silently prayed as tears fell from my eyes. "Why are you crying?" he asked me, almost gentle. "Please, don't kill me. Please. Just reject me and I'll leave you alone, I promise," I quietly begged him. "What?" He was taken aback at my pleas and I didn't understand why. "Why would I kill you? Why would I reject you?" "I'm a rogue. You wouldn't want a rogue for a mate. You're an Alpha." I looked down as more tears hit the ground. "I'm not going to reject you. I'm not going to kill you." He lifted my chin with his fingers. "I'm taking you home."
