  The loud bell like noise of the alarm awoke Layla from sleep. Without much hesitation, she flung her arm to her bedside and switched it off and then proceeded to get out of bed so she could prepare herself for yet another day of school.   As part of her morning  routine, she walked over to her closet and opened its door where she had pinned down a calendar and she took out a red marker from her pyjama shorts pocket and marked a cross on the present date.   She stared at the calendar, she was supposed to be cheerful she had not strayed from moving on, but she instead stared at it sadly, realising how far she'd gone in her desperation. Desperate was exactly what she was, she didn't want him but she was desperate for him, desperate for things to be different, desperate for her father
