I should have called off the wedding tonight, but oh Daniel, I have a surprise for you. You wait and see. You’ll regret asking me to marry you.
“I’ll just answer this call,” I excused myself while they were having a conversation about business and family matters.
I left the private room, and answered Jayron’s call—he’s an old friend whom I hired to work for me on this matter.
“Everything’s set. Should I drop the bomb?” he asked on the other line, sounding so excited. I rolled my eyes. He’s always teasing because no fiancé really stays as long as my lover.
“Not yet. Just wait for my call,” I smirked. “That family will see hell soon.”
“Noted.”
I went to the washroom and retouched my make-up. I couldn’t help but to feel so awful inside.
“Congrats,” a b*tch suddenly barks beside me. I didn’t give her a glance. The nerve of this b*tch.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” I stated while putting my things back in my pouch.
“Why? I am invited. Besides, it’s a family dinner.”
“Family my ass.” I stood beside her sophisticatedly, judging her from head to toe. “We’re not even blood-related. I will never consider you as part of this family.”
I smirked when I slowly triggered her trashy attitude. She’s clenching her fist and looks like at any moment she’ll start a cat fight here.
“I was part of this family the moment my mom married your dad,” she insisted.
“Just in the papers. At the end of the day, you’ll never inherit anything from my family’s wealth.”
“You b*tch—“
“Hit me. Go on. Hit me, b*tch.” I stepped forward, and she was easily intimidated when she slowly stepped backward. “That’s the only power you have, violence. You have nothing, Maggy, nothing.” I snapped in front of her, trying to wake her reality.
“You don’t have any right to look down on me as if I'm trash just because you grew up on a golden spoon,” she gritted.
“Why? Aren’t you one?” I scoffed. “Opss… that must be a real talk to you.” I walked past her but stopped for a second. “Oh well, reality hurts. Live with it, b*tch.”
I rolled my eyes and left her alone in the washroom.
The family dinner is over, and her eyes are like a dagger pointing at me. I give no importance because, between us, she should behave or else, dad will cut her off.
“I’m sorry, babe. I really want to drop you at your place, but I need to go with my parents,” Daniel said, holding my hand.
“No worries. I can handle myself.” I caressed his cheek while Maggy jealously watched us.
“Good night. I love you.” He was about to give me a peck on the lips, but I faced him on my cheek.
“Good night.”
“We’re leaving. How about you, Andrea?” Dad asked, who was about to enter the backseat of their car.
“I’ll leave too, dad. I’ll probably drop by the office later before going home,” I said.
“Drop by the house some other time. I’ll be waiting.” He tapped my shoulder before leaving with his mistress.
I left home and stayed in my condo the moment my father introduced his mistress and the b*stard. I felt so suffocated living with them, so I decided to live separately.
“Are you counting?” The b*stard, Andrew, stood beside me while waiting for our car. “19th fiancé? Did you f*ck them all before calling off the wedding? That’s gross.”
He’s just mocking you. Just mocking you. I told myself.
“Aren’t you tired of it? Should I expect a nephew soon?”
“Mind your own business.”
“It’s one of my businesses. You should give me a heads-up if you feel like giving up everything on me. Gotta go.” He left, grinning at me.
F*ck that bastard!
He hasn’t finished his degree yet, but he’s too proud and boastful. As if he accomplishes something significant in life. He’s nothing without dad’s support.
You just wait and see. I’ll never give up anything to you.
“And by the way, make sure you’ll settle down as soon as possible. I might marry someone next year and have a son. You better hurry.” He winked and drove his car away.
That son of a b*tch.
Instead of going to the hotel and work, I went to the high-end bar at the skyscraper owned by Chloe Romero, one of my close friends.
“Andrea! Gosh… I thought you declined the invitation.”
“I changed my mind. By the way, congratulations on your new business!” I said, giving her favorite expensive wine.
“Oh… I thought you forgot.”
“No way,” I chuckled.
“Drinks?” she offered.
“I won’t refuse. Thanks!” I said and bottomed up the glass.
“Whoa, you’re in the mood, huh?” Lorraine, my friend, suddenly appeared beside me. I laughed. “Anyway, let’s enjoy the night! Let’s party!”
I felt so carefree while dancing with the lights and enjoying the night chill with my friends and some acquaintances.
“Everyone!” Chloe went on the platform and the music slowly faded. “I have an announcement to make! I’m getting married in September next year.”
As if on cue, every phone beeped, and we all received a grand wedding invitation from Chloe.
“I hope to see you all there. Thank you! Enjoy the rest of the night!” she said, and the party continued.
I partied ‘til midnight.
I was a little tipsy when I went down to the main entrance of the building. Thankfully, I called a driver and immediately went to my car. The moment I saw it stopped right in front of me. After I told him where to go, I fell asleep.
The next morning, I woke up in one of the VIP rooms of the hotel I own and manage. What? I told the driver my condominium address but… anyway, my head was pounding. I badly need a cold shower to wake up my nerves.
I went downstairs and dined in my favorite restaurant, but it’s peak season so they don’t have a free table for me. I looked around and saw someone dining alone. Maybe I could share a table with him?
I sat across from him without a word.
“What…” I signaled to him to stop what he was about to say and let me talk first.
“As you can see, there’s no other free seat available. I won’t bother you. I just want to have my favorite meal and peacefully recover from my hangover. Thank you.” I said, giving him a forced small smile.
He didn’t speak but looked so annoyed. I looked at him intently and boy, he looked like a guy coming straight out of an international magazine. Am I attracted to him?
“You said, you won’t bother me but look at you, staring while I’m eating,” he said with bored eyes, looking at me so unwillingly. I felt like someone who was so unattractive, judging by the expression he'd giving me.
I’m a little offended.
I never felt this before because everyone likes me and even loves me, but this guy? Nevermind.
My food was just served when the guy stood and was about to leave me, but I…
“Can you stay for a bit?” I asked, not so me, because I never requested something this childish from a stranger. “I just can’t eat alone,” I said in a little voice.
“I’m busy, miss,” he said in a low, careless voice.
“Please? Just… Just ten minutes, no, fifteen. Can you?”
He stared at me and gave a heavy sigh before turning back to his seat. He folded his arms on his broad chest under his white button-down shirt. I saw some visible veins on his arms because his sleeves were folded up to his elbows.
“So… Have we met before? You look kind of familiar,” I said, trying to start a conversation while slicing my steak.
“So you don’t really remember what happened yesterday?” His brow raised, looking at me so judgingly.
I creased my forehead.
“Yesterday? What happened—”
“You mistook me as a paid driver. Your condo’s so tight with its security, so I took you here.”
“Oh…” I bit my lower lip as embarrassment eats me alive. “But I entered my car…”
“It’s my car.”
“Oh…” I grabbed a glass of water. “Apologies. I didn't know. I’m drunk.”
I shouldn’t have requested to dine with him. So that’s why I’m here because of him and because of my own mistake.
“You should have told me—” I said.
“You never give me a chance to speak like what you did earlier.” He defended.
I was silenced. I don’t know what to say.
“Are you staying here?”
“Just checked out today,” he said.
“I’ll cover the expenses.”
“I don’t need your charity, miss.”
“Uhm… how can I pay you then?”
“By not crossing into my life again.”
“What?”
“Stop talking and finish your meal.”
