Chapter 1

Thalia "J..Jasper" Thalia spoke breathlessly. She tried to push him away from teasing her marking spot. Jasper hesitated at her request but finally tore his lips away from her neck to look into her eyes. "I'm sorry," He said through pants as he leaned down and nuzzled her. "I just can't help it. We may not be fated but I still feel a connection to you." He said. He pushed himself back to sit on his knees as he gazed over her naked body. Her smooth white porcelain skin was so shiny you'd think it would glow in the dark. Freckles decorated her body trailing from her shoulders down to her stomach and over her thighs. Her deep dark red silk hair tousled around her flushed cheeks. "I know... but you know these feelings will disappear the second we lay our eyes on our mates," Thalia said. She sat up with him reaching over to grab a sheet to cover herself out of embarrassment from his staring. She noticed a millisecond of pain flash through his eyes but immediately fled as he gripped the sheet and slowly pulled it off to reveal her again, running his fingers up and down her thighs. "If," He said. "But we may not have to worry about that if you just let me.." He started but was interrupted by Thalia's sudden movements. Thalia threw her legs over the edge of the bed and pushed herself up to slip on a pair of black jean shorts and an army green tank top. "Someone's coming" Thalia warned. She began shoving things into her bag as Jasper groaned but forced himself to get out of bed quickly to dress himself and start packing up the few things they had that mostly consisted of clothes and a few non-perishable food items. "How far away are they?" He asked as he slipped on his shoes and swung the bag over his shoulder. "They are 3 miles away," She said. "There are only four of them but they are too close. We'll have to split up to force them to split and lead them away from the town" She said. Thalia went to open the door before Jasper let out a growl and slammed his hand against the door to shut it aggressively, causing Thalia to jump back. "We agreed to never split up again! not after what happened last time. If there are only four of them then we let them come to us and take care of them that way" He demanded. Jasper's eyes were pitch black as he stared into her. His face inches away from her. The bludging vein on his forehead was clearly visible to let her know he was seething at her plan while at the same time trying to stop his wolf from coming forward. If Thalia hadn't known any better she would have been forced to obey his command. Jasper possessed the strength and demeanor to be an Alpha by the way he fought and carried himself. He had been known to hold his own against Alphas who had mistaken them for normal rogues. Throughout the years they have been on the run, they met countless other packs and rogue wolves. Some decent, some not as welcoming. All of them believed Jasper to be a sigma wolf. He could easily start a pack if he wanted to, but they both knew it would be impossible to stay in one place long enough to start one. They would be easy targets not wanting to be held back or get innocent people killed because of them. Thalia and Jasper fled the hotel room and headed straight out of town in fear of getting caught near innocent bystanders. They had already learned once before to not be forced to shift to protect themselves in the public eye. Not only were they being hunted for a crime they were falsely accused of in the werewolf world, but they were also now wanted for the second-degree murder of innocent people who had gotten caught in the crossfire of the human world. Running through the forest Thalia could sense the warriors were on their tail and something else was in front of them. "Stop!" she exclaimed "Something's wrong!" She said as Jasper stopped and turned to face her right before something sharp hit him in the shoulder. He furrowed his eyebrows as he turned to look and saw a needle sticking out of his arm as he stumbled and hit the ground hard. A werewolf hunter. "Jasper!" Thalia bellowed. She instinctively snapped her head forward to the sound of another needle flying through the air in her general direction. She jerked herself backward to dodge the needle as she swiftly shifted into her wolf. Her bones breaking and shaping as long dark red fur sprouted into place with a white underbelly, shredding her clothes and ripping her backpack in the process. She crouched over Jaspers unconscious body with black eyes of rage and a protective stance, her teeth bared as the four warrior wolves who had been tracking them made their appearance. She could still sense the werewolf hunter in the area. It's appalling to think they would stoop low enough to hire a werewolf hunter to help take down a couple of assumed rogues they could never catch. Three of the wolves were different shades of grey and white with hints of brown in them with a shorter length of coat, not the normal warrior wolves that scarlet moon was known for. The third wolf however was undeniably a true scarlet moon wolf with a similar fur coat to Thalia's, a light red overcoat with black and grey to finish under the belly and paws. The length is longer and on par with that of a true northern wolf. Thalia kept her stance and released a warning growl as one of the grey wolves began to charge, within the blink of an eye the wolf had been tackled onto his back by a very large dark chocolate short-haired wolf not wasting a moment in ripping out its throat. Two more brown wolves appeared out of nowhere attacking the other grey wolves instantly taking their life as the red wolf began to flee. Thalia turned her attention to a massive large jet black wolf with a grey patch on his chest and paws swooping in and leaping through the air to tackle the red wolf and shred them without a thought. There was no doubt that the wolf was an alpha, they must have trespassed on pack territory. The brown wolves circled Thalia and jasper as the alpha positioned himself front and center. Thalia kept her guard and protective stance up as she locked eyes with the alpha. The moment the other warriors were taken out, the presence of the hunter was gone which confirmed her theory of them working together. The Alpha wolf shifted himself back into his human form as a suggestion of peace. Two of the other wolves followed suit but the third remained in her wolf form. Thalia hesitated but relaxed her stance and allowed her body to break and reshape back into herself. "Who are you rogue?" The Alpha asked in more of a demanding tone than a question. "My name is Thalia and this is Jasper, we're just passing through," She said. "That's some entrance for someone who is just passing through" He retorted. "You bring a hunter onto my lands and force my hand in spilling the blood of another pack's warriors who seem to be chasing apparent rogues.. for what reason? and why would they go as far as working alongside a werewolf hunter for the two of you?" He questioned. This alpha was a get-to-the-point kind of guy. Thalia thought about her answers very carefully before replying until she began to notice the decrease in Jasper's heart rate. She dropped down to his side and placed her hand on his forehead. He was burning up, sweat dripping from his face as his breathing was rugged. "Wolfsbane, he needs medical attention soon" One of the other wolves finally spoke. Thalia looked up recognizing him as a gamma. Turning her attention to the other male who began to move towards them she let out an instinctive warning growl. "Easy!" the gamma warned. "If you don't let us help you, he will die," He said. The male that approached seemed to just be a high ranked warrior and spoke genuinely "We aren't going to hurt you or your mate," He said. Before Thalia could respond the alpha spoke over her. "Not mates," He said matter-of-factly. "But I can tell you two are close and aren't the normal kind of rogues to go around starting things for no reason," He said. Thalia grabbed her bag and slipped on a new pair of shorts and a tank top. Once dressed she helped the warrior lift jasper up off the ground, wrapping her arm around his waist and throwing his arm over her shoulder while the warrior occupied the other side. The Alpha grabbed her ripped bag out of her hand and took the bag jasper had on his shoulder to relieve some weight and make him easier to carry. The gamma shifted back into his wolf and trotted alongside the female who never shifted. "Brandon, you and Shelby patrol the area and make sure that hunter found himself far away from our lands. I'll alert the others to patrol the rest." The alpha said. The two wolves nodded their heads in respect and took off into the woods. The four of them made their way to the packhouse, taking Jasper to the infirmary. There weren't very many buildings or homes on these lands. Turns out this pack didn't care much for modern luxuries such as air and electronics. They preferred to stay as close to nature as possible and let their wolves feel free and not trapped behind walls and doors. The packhouse was a large building mainly used for pack meetings and business. They kept all the important things in the packhouse like the infirmary and nursery. It also was used as a schoolhouse to educate their pups on werewolf life and pack laws and history. There was a mess hall that was also located inside where everyone dined together during meals if the weather didn't permit outside dining. "Why don't you have one of our nurses look you over, you don't look so good yourself," The alpha said to Thalia who was glued to Jaspers bedside refusing to let him out of her sight. "I'm fine," she said not making eye contact. "You will address our alpha with respect! with what he's doing for you and your.. companion is more than what a pair of rogues deserve" Spat a voice coming up from behind the alpha. From the tone and presence alone Thali recognized this wolf as the beta of the pack. "Stand down Eli" ordered the alpha. "She's fine, go be with your mate and new pup," he said. "I'm sorry alpha, thank you my alpha," he said as he bowed his head in respect and left the room. Thalia kept her attention on jasper who had finally broken the fever spell he suffered through for the past few days. His body temperature had finally regulated and his breathing became normal. The poison was almost out of his system and should be waking up soon. If he were a normal male wolf he wouldn't have recovered so quickly. "My apologies" Thalia finally spoke. "I'm not.. used to others' generosity, especially from an alpha," she said. "You can call me Ryan," he said. "And I can believe that most alphas are very cautious and don't trust wolves who don't belong to a pack," he said. "And you do?" Thalia questioned finally looking at him with a raised eyebrow. "Trust is something earned, but you can say I have good hunches" he responded. "All rogues aren't bad, they just get dealt bad situations and have to make the best of them," he said. "What if your hunches are wrong?" Thalia asked leaning back in her chair with her arms crossed. Before Ryan could speak someone entered the infirmary. By the way, Ryan's demeanor had changed and his face lit up he knew who it was before he turned around and saw her. "He likes to think they never are, but he'd be lying if he said that" she spoke melodically as she made herself comfortable in his lap on the other side of Jasper. His arm instantly wrapped around her to hold her in tight. "We can agree to disagree," he said with a smile on his face looking at her. "He's not wrong though, even I can sense it too. Coming from a former rogue such as myself, you two didn't choose this life on your own without good reason" she said. Thalia studied the woman caught off guard by admitting to being a former rogue now sitting on the lap of an alpha who made her a Luna. "And most rogues do with no reason?" Thalia questioned again, making Ryan chuckle with a shake of his head. "You sure know how to keep a wall up don't you?" He asked. "You'd be surprised " the luna scoffed. "We're not here to interrogate you. You don't have to tell us your personal business, but I would appreciate you taking up my husbands kind offer in getting looked over. You two are more than welcome to stay as long as you need but I know you won't. You won't be tracked here so you can relax and let your bodies heal and nourish. The both of you have been out there for quite some time and it's obvious you haven't had a proper meal in a while." She said. Thalia knew she couldn't say no to that. She had wondered how she could ensure that they wouldn't be tracked down but decided to push that thought to the side for now. She turned her head to look at Jasper who had finally seemed to be resting peacefully. "Okay," she agreed. The luna extended her arm out to Thalia and took her away to one of their most trusted doctors to tend to her, leaving Jasper to be looked over by alpha Ryan.
