Chapter 9

Tasia Tasia watched as the girl was being carried away toward the packhouse. She began to follow them, not hearing Marcus call out for her until he grabbed her hand to pull her back causing her to let out an instinctive growl. Marcus stared at her with a puzzled look on his face. Shocked at her actions Tasia shook her head and turned around completely to Marcus. "I'm..sorry. I'm not sure what came over me" Tasia said as she stared into her glass of champagne, occasionally glancing in the direction of the packhouse. She caught sight of Alpha Ryan consoling Luna Lauren before she followed the girl and the doctors to the packhouse. Did they know her? They both seemed to act as if they knew the girl unless that's how they reacted to all injured rogues that crashed a party. "I know exactly what came over you. I heard you say it" he said with a pointed look. Tasia took a large gulp of her champagne before she decided to shrug her shoulders at his statement. "I don't know what you're talking about," she said but then soon regretted it as her wolf growled at the idea of denying their mate. "Bullshit. That girl is your mate. You're infatuated with her" he said accusingly with a slight smile. "Impossible. Moon goddess doesn't mate pack leaders who can't reproduce. It's never been heard of" Tasia said as she downed the rest of her glass and set it on a nearby tray just to grab yet another full glass. "That's not true," Marcus said as he grabbed the drink from her hand to set it back on the tray before the waiter walked away, earning an intentional snarl from Tasia. "There are plenty of Lunas and Alphas who cant reproduce. My mother is one of them" Marcus said. Tasia looked at him with a raised eyebrow to his unfinished story. "If your mother couldn't reproduce, then how did you come to be?" She asked. Marcus shrugged as he looked around and back to her. "Surrogate," he said simply. "My mother and father tried to conceive for years only actually succeeding once. But she didn't make it all the way. They tried for a few more years after that and never succeeded again. It started to become more about the longing to be parents than it did to have an heir for both of them. My mother developed terrible depression causing her to have suicidal thoughts. So my father came up with the idea to find a surrogate. One who could stay quiet about the whole thing so that my mother and I would never be treated differently. They paid a pretty penny, but in the end, it was worth it to them." He said. Tasia listened to his story in amazement. She couldn't help but think back about her parents and their awful fate. She shook her head to clear those away to tune back into his story. "How did your mother get away with making everyone think she birthed you?" Tasia asked "They brought the surrogate in and she lived in the packhouse on the Alpha floor in one of the suites for the whole pregnancy where she was waited on hand and foot and had only one doctor to do her check-ups and deliver me. My mother was not allowed to leave the packhouse throughout the whole pregnancy. Everyone was aware of her fertility problems and thought it was normal for the Alpha to keep her locked away and out of sight from everyone including the packhouse staff. After I was born the surrogate stayed and was looked after until she was fully healed. She was given the option to have contact with me but nothing more than an old family friend relationship. She denied it and went on her way. My father kept tabs on her, she currently resides in a small pack in the west as a Teacher. No children of her own" He said. Tasia didn't know how to respond to all of that. Of course, she knew there were tons of couples out there who struggled to conceive, it just wasn't very common with pack leaders. Now that she thinks about it, maybe it's more common than what she thought. It's just kept secret like Marcus. "Even so, a pairing like mine is not common. It's rare for even lower-ranked pack members." Tasia said. "Your point?" Marcus asked with a raised eyebrow as he crossed his arms. "The point is, things that are uncommon in our world are frowned upon. I am the prime example of that statement. " She said. "Do you care about what people think now?" He questioned. "I don't, I strive to change people's minds about who they think I am" she said. "But what if she does? What if she can't handle the negative attention our union will bring? What if she doesn't accept it?" Tasia asks making herself begin to feel upset about possibly being rejected. What is going on with her? Her emotions feel out of control just thinking about a girl whose name she doesn't even know. "Then you'll get your wish of ruling as the one and only Alpha of Fiorire moon," Marcus said a little coldly making her wince at her own words being used against her. After a hard sigh, he shook his head. "You're only going to find out one way. Go get her" he said as he pointed to the packhouse. Tasia followed his hand to stare in the direction of the packhouse as she noticed a few northern warriors flocking an Alpha as they began to head to the packhouse. That seems a little odd. The music had begun to play again and everyone went back to normal, chatting and mingling away. Several people still gossiping about what happened until she could overhear someone telling Alpha Ryan about the northern Warriors. "I overheard them saying that she's a fugitive from Scarlet Moon up north. She's one of the rogues they have been chasing up and down the territories for years just causing a ruckus everywhere they ended up" The man said to Alpha Ryan. Ryan nodded his head and thanked the man as he hastily made his way to the packhouse. Tasia moved on her own accord this time to follow Ryan. Something about the whole situation just didn't sit right. There were several complaints about a pair of rogues terrorizing everywhere they went. Stories of them passing through and bringing death and c*****e through other wolves' lands. Some stories seemed more dramatic than others. But no one stepped up to admit to being the ones that were in pursuit. Once Tasia got to the Infirmary, the girl was surrounded by wolves who were bickering and arguing as she remained asleep. The doctors had already removed the arrow from her legs and patched her up. Tasia could smell wolfbane and silver that was infused with the arrow. No wolf would hunt another wolf with silver and wolfsbane. This was werewolf hunter work. All of the council members were present along with Alpha Ryan and Luna Lauren who stood close by to the girl. Across from them were the Scarlett moon warriors and whom Tasia assumed to be the Scarlet Moon Alpha. Tasia looked down at the girl to study her and noticed her wrist was handcuffed to the bed. Before Tasia could stop herself, a loud roar ripped through her chest as she stormed over causing everyone to stop and look at her. "Why is she handcuffed to the bed? Can you not see she is unconscious and injured!?" Tasia bellowed. She had several looks of confusion and shock and others seemed annoyed and angry. "You have no business being in here Tasia!" Alpha Johnson said. Tasia stepped forward to the bed and grabbed the handcuffs to yank them firmly. Breaking them clean off without much effort. Did they forget the girls a wolf? Even an omega could break those. "My mate. My business" she said flashing her black eyes and baring her elongated canine teeth. Her wolf begging to come forward to rip anyone to shreds who dares to lay a finger on their mate. There was a long silence across the room until Alpha Johnson broke the silence with a cackle. "I'm sorry.. forgive me if I'm wrong.... but aren't you...mated to Alpha Marcus?" Luna Lauren asked with a confused look on her face. Several others nodded their heads and awaited her answer. "Yes, please explain Luna Tasia how one could be mated to two people who aren't twins? Another female at that?" Johnson questioned earning him a frown from Lauren. "Well, Alpha Johnson of the Southern Territory who is to be aware of all things that are happening and to report marriages and new pack unions and leadership" Tasia started as she glanced to the other council members to make sure they were listening. "As you are well aware that Marcus and I are not fated mates and we are not married or engaged to be married." She said as she turned to address everyone at once. "Let me please formally introduce myself" she began. Alpha Johnson tried to interrupt but was quieted down by the other council members. "My name is Alpha Tasia Romano. I am the current Alpha of Fiorire moon of the South. I have rebuilt my pack from the ashes that it was reduced to after the fall of my parents." Tasia said, surveying everyone's reactions around the room. "Fiorire moon... that was Alpha Raymond Romano's pack.. known as one of the most ruthless and fierce Alphas the South ever had" The eastern council member spoke up. Tasia nodded her head. "I thought that pack was completely disbanded when his Beta took it over after his death. There had been no mention of the wearabouts of Romanos daughter" the Western Council member stated. Tasia cracked a grin as she stared at Alpha Johnson. "Alpha Johnson, care to explain why this is new information to the rest of the council?" Tasia asked in an innocent tone. "Because it was disbanded not long after Alpha Louis took it over," Johnson said in a flat tone. "But do they know how he took it over? How he unlawfully plotted against my father. His Alpha, and murdered him! Poisoning him overtime to make it look natural. Causing my mother to commit suicide? Not being able to bear the pain of losing her mate. And who knew about it?" Tasia asked accusingly. "I knew about nothing of the sort, and your continued accusations of the event are unjustified as you have no actual proof leading to Alpha Louis killing his former Alpha," johnson said. "Alpha Louis was removed from his position and the pack disbanded because he mistreated his pack members." He said matter of factly. Tasia scoffed and shook her head. "You're forgetting about the cruel and unlawful imprisonment and abuse of the former Alpha's only Daughter and Heir to the pack regardless of gender! was that in itself not proof enough that Louis's intentions were sullied?". She growled, baring his fangs at him. "Alright, enough of this back and forth. Johnson, we will talk about this later. Let's backtrack to you introducing yourself as Alpha, and the fact that you claim to be mated to this female fugitive whom you know nothing about as to why she is labeled as a fugitive" the Northern Council member said. "The pack was never officially disbanded. When Alpha Johnson arrived to assign a new Alpha no one stepped up. He was about to officially declare the pack disbanded until I spoke up. Claiming my rightful spot as the true heir to the pack. He laughed in my face until he realized I was serious." She said as she looked over to Johnson again. "He told me I would never make it past a year. Well, it's been 6. And my pack unofficially ranks the 4th strongest pack in the south. I have earned my right to be considered an Alpha regardless of my gender. My strength and determination defines who I am as a propper Alpha as does everyone else. And I have earned my right to be included here and now, even if I have to disguise myself as someone's Luna just to get one invite to an event I should have already been invited to" Tasia said confidently as she looked around the room. Everyone either had a look of shock or amusement on their face. But one thing Tasia knew for sure was The council had a look of anger towards Alpha Johnson. Everyone except the northern council member who studied her with a blank face. "And this so-called Fugitive that you refer to, there's more that lies beneath the surface than what Alpha Trevor is claiming," Luna Lauren said as she stared at the northern Alpha. Alpha Ryan nodded his head in agreement as he placed a protective hand around her shoulder. Tasia felt as if a weight was lifted off her shoulders now that she was able to stand up for herself and officially announce herself and her pack in front of every member of the territories council. Withholding information from the others about one's territory was very frowned upon. A council member in the past was removed from their spot for withholding information from the others. "This is northern territory business, the last I checked, I was not obligated to discuss personal pack affairs with people I deem unnecessary to speak with," Trevor said. "That being said, how do we know this so-called Alpha is really mated to this girl. A mate such as that? It is impossible if she were to be a true Alpha. As we all know, pack leaders are only mated to those who could potentially reproduce." He said. Tasia's blood began to boil at the northern alphas words before she began to notice a warm, tingling, and calming feeling that crept up her arm and swarmed her entire body. Her wolf was howling in delight for some reason until she looked down behind her and realized a hand was interlocked with her own. Her gaze trailed up to be met with those big, bright, and beautiful sea-green eyes. Tasia felt like she could see the waves of the sea as she gazed into them. "It's true" The girl finally spoke as she broke their gaze to look down at their combined hands. Her voice sounded like a sweet melody to Tasias ears. "I feel them. I feel the sparks" she said more to herself than anyone else.
