MINA’S POINT OF VIEW.
THE CLOSET.
The knock at the door was quick, but deliberate. My heart slammed against my ribs as Elliot’s voice pierced the quiet room. “Come on, Declan!” He pounded his fist on the wood again. “I need to get my laptop before class begins. It’s in your room!”
I barely dared to breathe as I pressed my hands against Declan’s chest. Declan, on the other hand, didn’t look half as anxious as I did. ‘Going somewhere, sweet Mina?” His voice was a rasp against my skin, his fingers trailing my cheek slowly, as if his brother wasn’t about to break his door down.
If he did; if he walked in and saw me like this… no…
“I need to hide, Declan.” I tried to push him off again, but still, he was like a rock. Something flashed in his eyes, his grip on my jaw tight but not bruising as he gritted;
“Why? You don’t want him to know how loud you screamed for another wolf, Mina? He’s not your mate, Mina.”
“I-that’s not it at all.”
“Then what is it?” A soft, low, warning growl tore at his chest when Eliott banged hard on the door.
“Declan, come on! I don’t want Mr Cliff’s trouble this early. I’m still sore from the push-ups he had me do; open the door already.”
Declan didn’t shift his gaze from me, nor did he look fazed. “Why do you want to hide? You’re not tied to my brother anymore.”
“I-I just don’t want him to see me like this.” I glanced down at my naked body. Declan did as well; another growl tore at his throat before he brought my eyes back up to his.
“Listen to me, Mina. You’re mine, all mine, understood?”
I didn’t understand his sudden claim, but I nodded. I would have done anything as long as it meant he would let me hide. He lets go of my chin, but only after he grinds his neck against my cheek, chest, face. At first, I don’t understand why…until I take a whiff of my body shortly after he gets off the bed.
He's coated me in his scent.
Any wolf that passes me will know what we did.
I glanced at him, tempted to ask why he did that, but he’s already pulled his shirt from last night on, wrapped a towel around his waist, then moved to the door. “Don’t want to hide anymore, sweet Mina?” he asks without turning around.
That snaps me quick out of it.
I push off the bed, nearly falling back on my back against the bed when it hits me. I am sore. My core feels like it’s been ravaged over and over again.
It was.
I look up to find Declan’s eyes on mine. The corners of his lips are curled upwards, his eyes burning bright gold. He looks smug. “Don’t say a word.” I grit my teeth, nails digging into my palms as I waddled to the closet, silk sheets wrapped around me. Moments after, I shut the door softly, but not entirely; a gap was left, and Declan let Elliot in.
I barely dared to breathe as I pressed myself deeper into the cramped closet, behind the coats and boxes. My fingers curled around the cold door handle, a desperate attempt to keep some part of myself from screaming.
Outside, I heard him, the rough scrape of Elliot’s boots against the marble floor. Then the unmistakable rasp of Declan’s voice, calm, steady, almost amused. “Finally.” He breathes. ‘What took you so long?”
“Grab your s**t and get out,” Declan replies, leaning lazily against the wall next to the open door. Elliot went straight for the drawer, pulling it open, probably to find his laptop. However, to my horror, he pulled something else out.
My panties..
The thick cotton strap of fabric dangled between his fingers, his mocking laugh slamming against my chest like a knife. “Now I see why you took so long, brother.” He faced a still-faced Declan. “What poor pack omega did you lure into your bed now? I mean, look at these old things. Must be some maid.”
I swallowed hard, heat coating my cheeks. Declan’s cool confidence was like a shield, and I could feel it almost reaching for me in the dark. It cut through Elliot’s cruel chuckle. “Put that down before you embarrass yourself, Elliot.”
Elliot’s laughter faded, replaced by a sharp edge in his voice. “It’s a harmless joke, brother. Calm down.” He started, but Declan already stormed toward him. Snatching my panties from Elliot’s grip, he reached into the drawer, then pulled out a laptop. He placed it against Elliot’s chest, leaving him to grab it before it slid off.
“Got what you want already. You can leave.”
Elliot no longer smiles, let alone cracks a joke. He nods once, swallows hard, then makes a step toward the exit. He stops suddenly, slowly turning to face Declan again. “I... I wanted to ask about that wolfless girl.”
“Mina.” Declan cuts in, glaring at him, my panties still in his tight fist.
‘W-what?”
“She has a name.”
“Why do you care so much, Declan? I mean, I know we grew up together, but what is it to you?” Elliot frowns. “You’re acting like she’s…”
“Like what?” Declan hisses, his eyes suddenly cutting in my direction. A sharp gasp escaped me, forcing me to press my body against the wall as if it could hide me from that intensity.
“Did you hear that?” Elliot turned this way too.
“Ask your question, Elliot.” Declan turned to stare at his brother again.
“Mina, did she make a sound? A real sound?” He gulps. “Was that growl real, or just a trick?”
My chest fluttered wildly. The growl that I never thought I could make. The one that had come from somewhere deep inside me, despite the insistence of the moon goddess that I had no wolf. Declan’s emotionless mask doesn’t slip.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“S-so it never happened, right?” Elliot followed Declan’s movements. He held the door handle, telling Elliot to get out without actually saying it. “O-okay, I do have class anyway.” Elliot nods. The door shut with a quiet click, and Elliot’s footsteps retreated, slow and reluctant.
Why did Elliot ask that? Why did Declan defend me... or maybe he wasn’t defending me? I mean, Elliot spoke about luring some sorry omega girl into his bed.
Maybe this is what Declan does: pretend he is charming, make a girl let her guard down, sleep with her, then he becomes…cold. I mean, he is Elliot’s brother.
He’s the Alpha. What would he ever want with someone like me? Wolfless, useless…he’s waiting for me to step out so he can tell me to leave. Or if he is truly cruel, he wants me to say yes to that offer, and when he is tired of me, he’ll tell me to get out of his life, his pack… his world.
And by then, I might have fallen for him.
When the silence finally settled, Declan didn’t come around the door. Instead, his voice floated back, low and soft; something about it made my breath catch. “You can come out now. And stop thinking that.”
I blinked, my fingers trembling. I’d never spoken those words aloud, right? I said it in my mind. His voice was calm, but the hum beneath it was something else. Something that told me this was no ordinary conversation.
He knew.
Somehow, that scared me more than Elliot ever could.
