chapter 6

Jace would never tell anyone. He was loyal, he'd always kept his secrets in the past. So then how did everyone hear about it, he was the only one who knew. He sat in the court yard thinking about it. Ordinarily, there was nothing to think about it. Surely Jace had betrayed him, he was the only one at school who knew about his mother's murder or so he thought. Was it possible that it could have been someone else? Who else could possibly know? He hadn't ruled out the possibility of his aunt telling someone or even his father. A hopeful spy put in place to watch him and had now turned into a self seeking rumor monger, it wasn't beyond his family members but there was no way to be absolutely certain. The only thing sure now was dexter would have to be spoken too again-as painful an experience it may be. If his best friend had indeed turned traitor or his father and aunt were loud mouths there would be need to investigate. His mystery girl and indecipherable memories would have to wait. Some things were bigger  than partying. Alex knew how to find him. Football. The guy didn't know s**t about chemistry or physics but he was the smartest man Alex had ever seen on a football field. Morning sun was a had of ambiance for football practice, if he was anywhere, it'd be there. He got up to leave and was interrupted by the persistent buzzing of his phone. He unlocked it. There was a message from an unknown number. Hey man, its Jace. Where are you Alex read it several times as he walked through the halls. He had not replied, why should he have? Where are you They were now the words of a potential traitor. The boy he had lived across the street from since he was 5, for all he knew was a clout chasing liar. ......... Jason nova was hardly a morning person, but when he woke up  hung over, covered in droll  and surrounded by bottles of tequila, with Alex subsequently missing from the room, he realized he would have to bend the law today. reluctantly, he rolled out of the bed and yelped when his back fell against a piece of glass.  "seriously" he wiped it off his shirt and was immediately drawn to the sleeping figure on the other side of the room. his back was turned towards him. the room was dark and held a certain gloom. Jason studied the figure before him, his eyes stopped at the bright red imprint on the shirt. it was the only thing he was able to see from such distance and within the lack of light. he recognized the drawing. something like a fox or a lion reaching for a ball. he had seen that particular shirt  before. slowly and consciously he walked to the other bed. "Alex...that you buddy" he rolled him over to his side. "what the...who the heck are you" "ugh what day is it" he groaned "uh weirdo Wednesday" the guy rolled again and he recognized the shirt now. it was his. he'd lent it to alex the summer before he'd returned to school. "why do you have my friend's shirt on?" he pulled the blanket off the bed that covered his torso. he didn't have any pants on. "who?" it was too dark and Jason realized quickly that it was getting hot. he walked over to the window behind the bed, drew up the curtains and flung the windows open. the other guy reacted immediately. "turn of the lights. come on I'm not ready to go to school yet mom" "what are you doing here" "I'm rescuing the princess" he slurred. obviously he was not yet completely awake. Jason slapped his hand onto his face and sighed "ugh never mind" he picked up his phone from his bed side table. it was dead. he needed to find out where Alex was and make sure he was ok. Alex had never gotten particularly drunk before, Jason had no idea what had gone on after the third round of shots. his friend could be wasted or lying down in a garbage truck somewhere miles away from school grounds. he felt like a hypocrite, to think he had promised Alex's father and aunt he would keep him out of trouble and he'd gotten him drunk and who knows hurt on his first night without them. he ran his hands through his hair and paced around the room all the while cursing to relieve stress. think of something. he had to contact him somehow and make sure he was still alive but how? he smashed an empty bottle of beer on the floor in anger and pieces of glass splattered all over the floor leaning towards the bed where the half asleep stranger lounged, and that's when it hit him. Alex no matter how drunk always slept with his phone under his pillow. he raced across the room to Alex's bed and raised the pillow. to his relief, it was gone which meant Alex was with his phone. he turned briskly to a buzzing sound coming from beside his hung over compadre. beep beep, he heard again. he walked back towards him and noticed his phone was still on. he picked it up. "okay if I use your phone man" "yeah whatever. wait who are you?" he squinted Jason rolled his eyes. he went straight to contacts and typed in his number. luckily Beth had made him and alex memorize each other's number in case of an emergency damn that woman had been God sent. he scrolled to send a message and texted Alex. Hey man, its Jace. Where are you? he waited a minute and the blue icon appeared on the screen. it had been read. he waited for a reply, it never came and his worst fears were realized. Alex was in trouble. either he had been kidn*pped or robbed and his phone was now in the custody of a criminal or he was traumatized or hurt and couldn't move his hands to reply. both situations were equally terrifying and Alex's father and god mother would kill him either way, he'd be fooling himself if he wanted to think alex had lost his cell phone or dropped it somewhere, he was far too responsible and controlled. he had to find him and if need be fix him. if there was anything Jason nova was good at, it was a good old fashioned clean up and cover up. he turned around and threw the phone over his shoulder and it landed on sleeping beauty's forehead. "hey. these things cost money you know" he set the phone aside and rubbed his speedily reddening forehead "and so do I" "yeah yeah" he picked up a pair of clean shirt and track shorts and some cleaning supplies from the closet. he wore the clothes and threw the cleaning supplies over the guy. "what the..." he finally got up from the bed and sat up straight "if you wanna stay in this dorm you gotta clean up" "wait" he raised a brow "I live here" he tilted his head in confusion. "just... clean up before I get back okay" he said through clenched teeth. he had had it up to here with this guy. "where you going" "to find my friend" he walked to the door "he lives here too right, so he's gonna clean up his part" Jason cursed beneath his breath and slammed the door.
