The Secret I Never Knew

1365 Words
As we move through the corridor I get this weird feeling of ease as if I belong here or something which does not make sense at all. A voice pulls me from my thoughts. “We are here”, Zoe says as she opens my blindfold. I was so absorbed in my thoughts that I did not even feel when I entered a room down the hallway. The room looks like a mix of a study and an office. On the chair behind the desk a man is sitting his back towards us. He gestures Zoe to leave. He turns towards me and motions me to sit across him. He seems like a middle aged man probably in his 40s in a well-tailored suit. He must have felt that I am scared and offers me a warm and welcoming smile. For a moment I got confused. “I know you have lots of questions right now but let me introduce myself. I am professor Ian. I am the president of this academy”, the man says. “Academy? What are you talking about?” “Let me explain. So you see this is an academy, academy for the supernaturals. And before you ask yes supernatural exists but we stay hidden away from humankind. We have been in existence for millions of centuries.” He says as he walks up to the window as he looks outside. “supernaturals? Do you think I am dumb? Why should I believe you? After all you kidnapped me.” I just cannot believe this. What have I gotten myself into? “I understand how you feel but this is the truth. For a fact you also belong to the supernatural world. Think about it earlier you had lots of injuries when u lost consciousness but look at yourself now, you do not even have a scratch on your body. Recall your past and remember when u got injured on any occasion, you will get your answer. He is not completely wrong. My healing abilities has always been a mystery to me. I have never met my parents. My caretaker, Linda who is like a mother to me says that they died in an accident and it was a miracle that I survived. Linda has been taking care of my family even before I was even born. Whenever I asked her about this ability she said its genetic that my mom had the same gene. Linda is my actual guardian and is an angel by heart but I had always got this feeling that she is trying to hide something from me. It is professor Ian whose voice pulled me out of my thoughts. “Listen Rachel I know this is tough for you but you deserve to know the truth. You are a half-blood. Your mother was a witch who used to heal people. Some humans knew her as she had saved their lives and as an honour kept her identity secret. During one of her usual trips she met a guy and eventually fell in love. Eventually they got married and had you but they chose to raise you in the human world for the first 20 years of your life.” “But why 20 years? It is so confusing and feels so surreal”, I ask as I am finding it very difficult to wrap my head around this. “Because they wanted you to enjoy your human side as well but after 20 years your powers starts to grow and can create hazards if not trained properly. So we decided to bring you here in the academy after your 20th birthday.” “This is unbelievable. On top of that is all of this was planned then why kidnap me? You could have asked properly.” At this point I am getting more and more confused. “Ask yourself if we had asked you nicely would you had agreed to come willingly? You are a spitting image of your mother and equally stubborn.” He chuckles as he sits in his chair. His words are making sense but I just cannot believe this has been kept as a secret from me for such a long time. I feel so confused and angry and hurt…. “So Linda?” “Yes she is also a witch more precisely a very trusted friend of your mom.” “So is everyone in the academy is witch including you?” I said thinking out loud. Professor shakes his head and chuckles slightly, “No, not everyone is a witch. I am a zombie and there are many other species in the academy like vampires, werewolves, zombies, demons, angels and of course witches and half-bloods and many more.” “So where is this place? Like which part of the world and all.” I ask as I try to soak in everything. “You see it is not in any part of earth. We travel through portals between earth and the supernatural world.” “I see but how am I going to know my powers and live here? I do not know anything about this place and people living here.” Slowly the gravity of the situation hits me and I start to get anxious again. Upon reading my troublesome face the prof. says assuring me “you might feel out of place for some time but eventually you will get hang of it. And about your powers, you have to work upon it and develop your skills over training. one more thing, you have to train hard because half-bloods are targeted easily because of they are a bit unique from other species so stay alert and careful.” “Unique? How? I thought half-bloods would be weaker as compared to others.” “No, they often develop something very powerful which can immensely benefit someone but that power varies from person to person. So it is your individual task to discover it.” The professor takes a deep breath and says, “I hope I managed to answer some of your questions and gave you some clarity. From now you will stay in the dorm assigned to you and from tomorrow you will join your classes. You will get every detail already present in your dorm. Any last question for today?” “What about Linda? Where is she? And how will I find my way to the dorm?” I asked. “Linda is also staying here as a teacher. She is a very talented witch. And Zoe will escort you to your room.” With that we both stand up and I move towards the exit. As I was making my way out he suddenly said, “Be careful and stay safe, little rose”. I gave a small smile before exiting. I know he was just looking out for me but something in his tone was unsettling. At a distance I saw Zoe waiting for me and made my way towards her. “So did u learn anything new?” Zoe said half joking. “Yeah and actually a lot about my own life.” I said as we walk towards the dorm. “Really?” she seemed a bit surprised. I nodded and told her about my past which I got to know only few hours back. “That’s a lot of information. How are u holding up?” she said in a concerning tone. “just holding up somehow. By the way what creature are you?” it is true that I am barely holding up and trying my best to not lose my sanity. “I am a devil and here is your room. My room is down the hallway so if you need anything find me there.” She seems tired. Now that I think about it I also feel tired. Soon we say our goodnights and I go into my room locking the door behind me. As I lay in my bed I think about the last few hours. Soft moonlight piercing through the glass window. Eventually I drift into a deep slumber peacefully.
