Chapter 9

ENISA POV

I looked out through the window as the moon shone in the dark sky, there was something ominous about it tonight. A jaunty smile found its way to my lips when I realized this was the last time I was going to see Iris.

Under the full moon tonight, Iris will become Prince Zaden's Luna, after all this years I couldn't wait to bade her farewell. I shifted my gaze and watched as all the maids got busy trying to get things ready for the bumpy journey, Iris mate bond will be taking tonight. After bonding with him, and getting his teeth mark she will finally become his mate. I tucked in by a corner keenly watching, every move and just then I felt a light tap on my shoulder.

I turned around and saw a maid, "Princess Iris has sent for you," she said and I nodded my head, she left and immediately I began to wonder why Iris has sent for me. She made it clear the other night that she never wanted to see my face, looks like she wasn't a keeper of her words.

I made my way to where Iris room was, and gave the door a light knock when I got to her room, I vividly recall what transpired when I had made the mistake of not knocking before entering her room. "Come in" she said and I slowly turned the knob of the door open. I saw a lot of maids attending to her needs, a lot of jewelries was displayed on her bed for her to make a choice, and she was making a pick out of the various colours of gowns exhibited by the maids.

Immediately she sighted me she snapped her hands twice and all the maids filed out leaving only both of us in the room. "Come on Enisa, help me out I can't make a choice", she said getting on her feet and walking up to her bed where all the assessories were displayed. "I think this sapphire necklace will be nice on that red dress," she said caressing the all too dazzlingly necklace. I was taken aback by her sudden amicable attitude, what mind games was she playing this time.

"Don't you think this black diamond necklace will look elegant on that white gown? She said taking a hold of the diamond necklace and I was beginning to loose my patience.

"What do you want from me Iris?" I asked staring deeply at her but she simply ignored me. Placing back the diamond necklace she picked up a necklace made of gold, it was embellished with some white pearls, "What about this necklace it would look good on the black gown right? She said and I shot a brow up,if I was to make a choice I would pick the gold necklace and the red gown. But I didn't utter a word, as much as I knew she had an obsolete taste of fashion, I also knew this attitude of hers was a scheme.

"Just drop this subversive pretence Iris, I am not going to fall for it," I said and she just gazed at me. "Enisa if you don't want to help me out then it is okay, I will manage this on my own" she said and I was already beginning to get unnerved, what really was going on here? She wasn't being factual here, was she? I knew behind those pretty smile was an ulterior motive, it was only about time before she will make them known to me.

I turned around to take my leave...."Where do you think you are going Enisa?" she said ,this time she didn't sound so amicable, her voice was deceptive. I turned around and gazed at her, she was now walking up to me. "Don't you like the new improved me?" she said smirking."Why are you playing games, with me Iris?, you have a wedding to prepare for, focus on that", I said eyeing her keenly.

"You are the one playing mind games with me Enisa, and my wedding is none of your business! She said walking around in circles, not tearing her gaze away from me. " You think you are so smart, that you could get away with it" she said and I became perplexed. "What are you talking about Iris? I said, all of a sudden she is being loquacious.

" Why don't you just accept it? you are jealous of me, that is why you went behind my back to try and snatch Prince Zaden away from me", she said and I wore a tentative look, "What ! , So this was all what this was about. "That's not true Iris , I didn't go behind your back to snatch Prince Zaden from you, that is such a acrimonious thing to do" I said and she gave me a pensive look.

"Then tell me, why were you with him the other night? , she said and I didn't feel the need to answer her question. So now she wants to talk things out, really! After making me loose my face in the presence of everyone at her birthday party.

"That is for me to know, and for you to never find out", I said building the suspense, the tension in the room was overwhelming. I made to leave but she grabbed me by my wrist and dragged me back. "Oh no Enisa, you are not going anywhere until I get the answers to my questions," at this point I became ambivalent of what to do, why was she being so obnoxious right now?

I tried to wiggle my hands out of her grip, but it was futile. "Iris...let go of me", I said, trying to talk some sense into her. "I promise I have nothing to do with Prince Zaden, just let go of me."

"Your sheer promise won't walk on me Enisa, spill it...or else", she said tightening her grip and I felt my bones were going to snap any moment. I felt weak and helpless, Iris went to fencing school, so I didn't stand a chance, she was very combative.

" I only wanted to thank him for his benovelence," I said my mouth itching to spill the truth, I couldn't take the pain anymore. "What was his generosity that you had to go and thank him?" she said and I was silent, she twisted my wrist and that was what debunked my resistance, I shrilled " He bought me the gown I had worn to your birthday party", I said and she loosed her grip. "What !I heard her say. I felt a surge of relief as I whimpered in pain at my swollen wrist, but the relief was temporary as it just hit me I had just told Iris the truth.

Fear crept into my heart as I looked at Iris and she wore a shocked look. "Y..you got a chance to see Prince Zaden before I did? And you seduced him with your covetous flirty eyes to buy you an expensive dress." She said now coming closer and I staggered back in agitation, "You wanted to have him for yourself from the beginning, you pathetic fool, how dare you? She said now lurching towards me, she seized me by the same wrist and I winced in pain.

"Iris...stop you are hurting me," I said feeling the severity of her grip. "I am going to teach you a lesson you will never forget" she said and I tried to wiggle out, but it was in vain. She griped my hair with her other hand and yanked my hair.I couldn't take it anymore so I bit her on her hand, my teeth sucking deep into her supple flesh, she wailed in pain loosing her grip on me, she frenzily moved backward and fell her head hitting a glass table, just in the middle of the room.

I heard her let out a loud groan, and suddenly became quiet. I turned around only to find her unconscious right on the floor, I suddenly became alert. "Iris" I called out her name hoping all this was just one of her silly games, but got no response. "Iris ! I called out walking up to where she was and feeling for her pulse, she was alive,I breathed in relief. I watched as blood slowly trickling down her face and I became scared.

"Oh no, Iris, what have I done?" I asked myself staring at Iris laying unconscious on the floor, today is her wedding, what would Prince Zaden say if he finds out about this? What would happen to me? Father would probably throw me in the dungeon for the rest of my life. I felt stupid for ever trying to challenge Iris in the first place. "Iris, please wake up", I said tapping her lightly on her cheek, "I promise to never challenge you again just wake up" I said already getting frustrated.

Why was bad things always happening to me? why was life being unfair to me? "What should I do? "Run away? I asked myself already having a back up plan, Iris was not going to wake up anytime soon. If I run away father will definitely send his guards after me, I don't stand a chance not on this tardy feets of mine. My eyes inadvertently darted around the room and I spotted a jug of water and a glass beside it. I reached out for the glass and poured some water into it, I sprinkled some water on Iris face, but not an inch did she move, feeling restive I made for the door to go and call the mansion's pack house nurse.

Just then, I herd a knock on the door and my heart froze for a moment.

Who could it be?
