Dora Ni’s heart skipped a beat as she met her manager’s gaze.
Could things get any worse? “Manager Qu?” she asked cautiously, bracing for bad news.
“Nicole, you must have heard—Yunying International landed a massive global deal. It involves English, German, Spanish, and several minor languages.
They’ll outsource parts of it, and your team is in charge of the German segment. As our top German translator, I need you to prep thoroughly. This is a make-or-break opportunity for the company,” Manager Qu explained.
Dora’s relief faded instantly. Yunying International—Keith Fu’s empire? It felt like a cruel joke. “Manager, Yunying has its own international affairs department, doesn’t it?” she pressed, hoping it was a mistake. A small firm like theirs had no business partnering with a tycoon-led conglomerate.
“They do, but Germany isn’t their core market—no in-house German translators. The German portion is the only confirmed outsourced part. Here’s the product info and contact details for their project lead. Secure this deal,” Manager Qu insisted, handing over a file.
Walking back to her desk, Dora felt lightheaded. Collaborating with her ex-husband right after divorce? The universe was playing a cruel joke on her. Her colleagues were already chattering excitedly, huddled around Jade Cheng’s desk.
“Can you believe it? Partnering with Yunying means rubbing shoulders with elites—maybe even Keith Fu himself! Imagine standing next to him, speaking fluent German. I need to lose weight and get a makeover!” one gushed.
Dora rapped her file gently on their heads. “Dreaming won’t land the deal. Finish your reports first, or no bonuses. If you want to impress, focus on your skills, not your looks. Jade, make copies for everyone.”
As the group dispersed, Dora massaged her temples.
Meanwhile, Keith boarded his private jet, his phone ringing just as he settled in.
